Building Residual Income


One of the special advantages of Direct Selling is the possibility to earn residual income through building a Network Marketing organization. Residual income is money you continue to earn after your initial efforts have ceased. For this reason it is also referred to as "passive income." You are rewarded for the sales revenue of the people you introduce into the business and the people they introduce, earning income from the revenue generated by your networking organization. The youngest Top Earner is 18 years old. The oldest Top Earner is 84+ years old. 77 percent of sales are done face-to-face. 11 percent of sales are through the Internet. 9 percent of sales are by phone. 74 percent of US adults have purchased products from a direct seller. 70 percent of direct sellers are woman. 30 percent of direct sellers are men. 5 percent of the adult population of the US is involved in Direct Selling. 90 percent of all Direct Sellers operate their businesses parttime, between five and 15 hours a week.

Worldwide Direct Selling Revenue


Direct sales is a global phenomenon, increasing revenues from 2010 to 2011 by 10%. According to the DSA (Direct Selling Association): The U.S. was ranked as the top direct selling market in the world with 20 percent of worldwide sales in 2011. Japan came in second with $23.9 billion (16 percent) China with $16.3 billion (11 percent), South Korea at $12.8 billion (eight percent) Brazil at $12 billion (eight percent).

Myths & Misconceptions


Myth: You have to recruit your friends and family Recruitment is done by the army. You are looking for business partners. In Direct Selling you are an "Independent Contractor." It's your business. You own it and you choose who you work with. You can build your business with your warm market (people you know) or cold market (the rest of the world). About 30% of all new business partners are introduced through the warm market, 70% through the cold market. Sponsoring is about taking personal responsibility for new participants in the business, ensuring they have a good understanding of the responsibilities associated with owning and succeeding in a business of their own. Sponsoring is about caring, educating and serving your partners. It creates a win (win-x's-win) partnershipship between the sponsor and the enrollee.

Myth: It looks like a pyramid


All organizations are shaped like pyramids: Governments, churches, schools, colleges and universities, the military, sports teams, small business, civic groups, clubs... even families. In any situation you will have people "above and below" you in terms of responsibility and leadership. One big advantage of Direct Selling is that the people above have a vested interest in your success and will assist you in achieving your goals. Unlike other business models, Direct Selling is based on cooperation NOT competition. Most countries have strict laws making "pyramid sales" illegal. If Direct Selling companies were pyramids, more than 65 million people around the world would be in jail. Direct sellers are involved in legal companies. Myth: Direct sellers who drop out are stuck with the inventory they purchased Most companies repurchase inventory acquired in the past 12 months for at least 90 percent of the purchase price if a Direct Seller decides to leave the business. In most jurisdictions, this "buy back" policy is a matter of law.

I know somebody who failed


As with all endeavors in life and business, people sometimes fail. Getting involved in Direct Sales is NOT a guarantee of success. Many people play football, not everybody is playing as a professional and not all professionals are winners. If you are seeking investment advice, would you speak with a bankrupt broker? Talk with people who are successful in Direct Selling, they love to share their stories, strategies and even secrets. If you want to become a successful football player the best thing to do is to talk with a champion not with somebody who quit the team. Connect with the proven leaders, make new friends. This is not very effective

Over 50 percent of Direct Sellers report that their net income after taxes and expenses is cash positive. Whether you are a career business-builder, or a stay-at-home mom, or seeking a more fulfilling work experience, you will find that Direct Selling people support one another and create friendships and partnerships that often last a lifetime. Fully 89 percent of active Direct Sellers surveyed rate their personal experience in Direct Selling as excellent, very good, or good. About 80 percent only use the products. How to start
Experienced Direct Selling leaders will tell you that to be successful, you need to choose a product or service that you fully & completely believe and use yourself. Educate yourself Learn the basics. Order some products, set up your business (replicated, corporate) website, get familiar with the company facts & figures, policies & procedures. Most people who fail and quit in the first months do so because they do not understand the basics of the business. Take a week or so to learn more about your company, products/services and business systems. Without any education you are like a bakery that is producing bread without a recipe, the proper ingredients or know-how. Nobody is interested in over-salted or burned bread

All you will ever do is...


No one will ever truthfully tell you Direct Selling is easy but those who know will say this business is simple. They know, "All you will ever do is learn how to do something, then teach others how to do what you already know how to do successfully." First, learn how to USE the products or service. Once you have done that successfully, you can teach others how to do the same. Learn how to successfully RECOMMEND the products to people. Once you have done that, you can show & tell others how to do that, too.

Then find people who want a business people just like you who share the same desires you had when you joined, men and women who are looking for just what you were looking for. SPONSOR them into the business and then teach them how to do with others what you just did with them. And you will do this same thing learn to do something then teach others how to do what you've already done all the way up to the very top levels of success in your company.

Anybody can do this business. Preparation, however, is "King and Queen." A successful Direct Seller is somebody who has an interesting story to tell and has credibility ("know, like & trust") with others. Self-discipline, good work ethics and a proven DMO (Daily Method of Operation) are key strengths you will want to develop. Making a list of people you know is one of the first steps. Notifying them of your enthusiasm & excitement with your new business and asking for their support is a non-threatening, fast & effective way to share your opportunity with all your contacts. Social networks on the Internet (such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etceteras) are another great source of contacts and spreading the word. Fact: The average person personally knows between 100 and 230 people and has acquaintances with 1,000 more.

Connect with the Leaders; they love to share their knowledge, to guide you and help you succeed. Follow ALL the trainings. Leaders do. It is the key to sustained motivation and success. If you have a bad day, listen to positive audios, watch a motivational video. Be positive, it always benefits your business. Build a relationship first, do not jump on people. More people will join you if you lead by example. Dont try to explain the marketing plan on a street corner. Make a friend and meet their friends.
