Spotting pills to free stuck pipe:

EZ-Spot Pill (used in Non reservoir intervals, should not be used in

Reservoir as its contain chemicals reservoir damaging)

Mix grease pill as following,

EZ-Spot spotting fluid formulation for 100 bbl

Density, pcf Oil/Water ratio Diesel, bbl EZ Spot, drum Lubricant, drum Pipe Lax water, bbl Barite, 5000 lb big bag

Less volume can be mixed using above formulation; for example in 75 pcf if 70 bbl is required, multiply 0.7 by 58 bbl = 41 bbl of diesel is required to formulate 70 bbl EZ Spot pill. Do same for rest of chemicals needed Displace pill as following: XX bbl in annulus enough to cover BHA + 10 % excess leaving XX bbl inside drill pipe Let pill soak for at least 6-8 hours while putting string on tension if stuck occurred while running in or compression if stuck occurred while pulling out or combination of both 1 hour in tension and 1 hour in compression for at least 6 hours. After soaking pill start to work on stuck pipe, displace 1 bbl every 30 min This remaining pill volume inside drill pipe should be enough for at least 12 hours working time. If no success displace pill out, dump EZ Spot when back to surface and prepare Glycol pill.

Glycol Pill (used in Reservoir and Non reservoir intervals)

Density of Glycol Cocktail: 66 68 pcf, this pill is unweighted and cannot be weighted up. Be sure to calculate and consider the effect of this pill on the hydrostatic of the well in the vertical section. Mix Glycol pill as following: Note that Glycol and Lubricant capacity are 55 gal/ drum

Glycol Cocktail spotting fluid formulation for 100 bbl

Aramco Glycol (MEG or TEG), bbl 87 equivalent to 66 drum 87% Lubricant, bbl 9 equivalent to 7 drum 9% Pipe lax 4 bbl equivalent to 3 drum 4%

Less volume can be mixed using above formulation; for example if 70 bbl is required, multiply 0.7 by 87 bbl = 61 bbl of glycol is required to formulate 70 bbl Glycol cocktail. Do same for Lubricant.. Displace pill as following: XX bbl in annulus enough to cover BHA + 10 % excess leaving XX bbl inside drill pipe Let pill soak for at least 6-8 hours while putting string on tension if stuck occurred while running in or compression if stuck occurred while pulling out or combination of both 1 hour in tension and 1 hour in compression for at least 6 hours. After soaking pill start to work on stuck pipe, displace 1 bbl every 30 min This remaining pill volume inside drill pipe should be enough for at least 12 hours working time. If no success displace pill out and discuss with office for Acid option.
