VIGILANT FAITH
We celebrate the Year of Faith that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI called for last year in order to strengthen our faith amidst the troubles in our world and focus on Jesus Christ in whom we live and move and have our being. The Second Reading today recalls the great men and women of faith in the bible who became victorious in life because they were focused on God who is the source of their confidence amidst human limitations and challenges. Chapter 11 of the Letter to the Hebrews is a great reference for those who look for models of faith, with special mention on the faith of Abraham. Faith is a gift from God that requires human cooperation to allow it to grow and bear fruit. Faith makes us seek for a better homeland, a heavenly one that enables us to endure the hardships of this earthly journey. The gospel calls for vigilance for Gods visitation. Vigilance always requires faith. Faith makes us constantly aware of Gods presence in our lives. Jesus calls for vigilance in order for us not to be caught into worldly cares but always ready and excited for the things that matters before God. Jesus said, Do not be afraid, for the Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. Seek the heavenly treasures, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be. Vigilance is not a passive waiting but an active life of faithfulness even in ordinary moments, always ready to stand for the truth against all oppositions, saying no to all temptations and going against the flow of worldliness, all for the sake of guarding our greatest Treasure, no other than Jesus Christ and his loving grace in us. Faithfulness is not just for great moments but for little things as well. The beginning of faith journey is our desire to possess Christ and his kingdom and so lead us to participate in his mission. Having a clear vision of this journey with Christ keeps us aligned with Gods will all the time, and this is what makes us truly vigilant before God.
