Hot Potatoes Half Apron Cutting: WOF = Width of Fabric 22275 S Cut 1 piece 25 x 42 (WOF). 22278 AO Cut 1 pieces 4 x 42(WOF). 22279 S Cut and piece for a piece size 4 x 69 for the waist band and ties. Also needed: One button. Construction: Note: Sew with seam allowance unless otherwise specified. Sew right sides together (RST). Press each seam as you sew. 1. Sew the 4 x 42 stripe piece to the bottom edge of the 25 x 42 piece. 2. Fold a double hem (fold hem and fold again) around the side and bottom edges of the apron and press. Sew hem. 3. Sew a gathering stitch across the top edge of the apron piece and pull to a length of 22. 4. Fold the gathered edge in half and pin to mark the middle. 5. Fold the piece for the waist band and tie in half crosswise to find the middle. Pin the middle of the waist band to the middle of the gathered edge, RST. Pin the waist band all the way across the gathered edge and sew.

6. Fold the ends for the ties RST and pin. Sew the ties together and across the ends, sewing only the portion for the ties and not the waist band.

7. Turn the ties right side out and flip the waist band to the back. Press a hem on the edge of the waist band and pin to the back of the apron, covering the raw edges of the seam with the gathers. Top stitch across the waist band on the front side, sewing through the back edge of the waist band. 8. Try the apron on and position the location for the pot holder (instructions below). Pin to mark the location for the button and sew. Hang potholder.

Hot Potatoes Reversible Pot Holder Cutting: WOF = Width of Fabric. 22273 O Fussy cut 1 piece using the pattern (See potholder template). Reverse the pattern and fussy cut another piece. 22279 R Cut 1 piece 1 x 40 (WOF) for binding and hanger. Also needed: Insulating batting cut using the pattern. Construction: Note: Sew with seam allowance unless otherwise specified. Sew right sides together (RST). Press each seam as you sew. 1. Place one potholder piece right side down. Place the batting on top, then place the 2nd potholder piece right side up. Align edges and pin. Baste around the edges, going through all 3 layers. 2. Sew binding around the edge of the potholder with a seam allowance and RST. When you get back to the beginning end, trim excess binding to a overlap. Turn a hem back on the top end and overlap the beginning end. After sewing, fold the binding to the back and fold a hem under. Hand sew the binding to the back. 3. Use the excess binding for the hanger. Fold in half and sew side edge and across one end. Turn right side out and press. Fold a hem under on the open end and stitch across end. 4. Fold the hanger in half to form a loop. Pin the ends stacked together to the back side of the potholder and sew to potholder on the binding.

Hot Potatoes Tote Bag with Pockets Cutting: 22273 O Fussy cut 2 blocks 13 W x 9 H for pockets. 22277 S Cut 2 pieces 16 x 21 . Cut and 1 piece size 6 x 55 for lining. 22278 AO Cut 2 pieces 16 H x 21 W with the stripes vertical. Cut 1 piece 6 x 55 with stripes running lengthwise (piecing is required for this length). Cut 2 pieces 13 W x 9 H with stripes vertical for pocket lining. 22279 G Cut 2 pieces 3 x 28 for straps. Cotton low loft batting: Cut 2 pieces 16 X 21 . Cut one piece 6 x 55. Cut 2 pieces 1 x 28. Construction: Note: Sew with seam allowance unless otherwise specified. Sew right sides together (RST). Press each seam as you sew. 1. Pin a pocket piece to a pocket lining piece, RST. Sew together leaving a 2 opening on the bottom edge. Turn right side out, press, and hand stitch the opening closed. Make 2. 2. Center a pocket on each stripe 16 x 21 piece. Pin and sew around the side and bottom edges of the pocket, leaving the top edge open. Make 2. 3. Pin each of the 2 stripe side panels and the long 6 wide stripe piece onto the corresponding size batting pieces, with the fabric right side up. Sew the pieces to the batting with a quilting stitch in your choice of quilting pattern or using free motion quilting. Do not stitch on the pockets. 4. Pin the long 6 wide stripe piece to the side and bottom edges of one piece with the pocket, RST. At the bottom corners, clip in the seam area of the side panel for ease in turning. Repeat to sew the remaining piece with the pocket to the other long edge. Trim end if any excess fabric remains. 5. Repeat #4 above to sew the lining with the yellow fabric pieces. 6. Lay a 1 wide batting strip centered on back side of one green 3 wide strip. Wrap the side edges of the fabric over the batting and fold back a hem back on the edge of the top piece. You may have to adjust the fabric so that the folded hem is next to a side edge. Pin and sew around the tie from the side edges. Repeat to make 2 straps. 7. Lay the bag unit flat, right side out. Align the ends of one strap to one top edge about 10 apart and pin. Repeat with the other strap, pinning to the other side of the bag.

8. With the lining turned wrong side out and the bag turned right side out, place the bag inside the lining bag. Align top edges and pin. Sew top edges, leaving a 4 opening.

9. Turn right side out and press seam flat. Slip stitch the opening closed. Top stitch around the top edge from the edge.

Low loft cotton batting: Cut 2 pieces 11 x 8 and 1 piece 7 x 29. Construction: Note: Sew with seam allowance unless otherwise specified. Sew right sides together (RST). Press each seam as you sew. 1. Pin each of the 2 Hot Potato side pieces and one 7 x 29 piece onto the corresponding size batting pieces, with the fabric right side up. Sew the pieces to the batting with a quilting stitch in your choice of quilting pattern or using free motion quilting. toaster cover. Align top edges and pin. Sew top edges from the edge. 5. Hot Potatoes Placemat Cutting: For 4 placemats 22273 O Fussy cut 4 blocks 13 x 8 . 22275 S Cut 8 pieces 15 x 2 and 8 pieces 13 x 2. Cut 4 piece 18 x 13 for back. 22278 AO Cut 8 pieces 13 x 1 and 8 pieces 8 x 1 . 22279 G Cut 4 pieces 1 x 6 (includes extra length). Subcut into 16 blocks 1 square. Optional - batting Construction: Note: Sew with seam allowance unless otherwise specified. Sew right sides together (RST). Press each seam as you sew. 2. Sew a 15 x 2 piece to the top and bottom edges and then a 13 x 2 piece to each side edge. 1. Sew a 8 x 1 stripe piece to each side edge of the Hot Potato block. Sew a 1 green block to each end of a 13 x 1 stripe piece. Make 2. Sew to the top and bottom edges.

3. Pin the placemat top to the backing RST. If quilting, lay the 2 layers on top of batting and cut batting to the same size and pin all layers together. Sew together, leaving a 4 opening on the bottom edge. Turn right side out through the opening, press and hand stitch the opening closed. 4. If quilting, quilt as desired. If not quilting, top stitch around the edge, from the edge.
