1) Do you remember E. A. Poe? He could never overcome his drinking addiction and died of an overdose of alcohol. Your task in this project is to design a campaign to raise awareness about the danger of too much alcohol 2) You have to prepare and present a folder with your practical work. 3) You have to give an oral presentation explaining your practical work, and how you are going to achieve your goal, you have to consider what alcohol is how it affects a person, why people react differently to alcohol consumption, what health problems are associated with its excessive use. 4) You have to create a blog or with as part of your campaign.

- What is an alcoholic?
An alcoholic is a man or a woman who suffers from alcoholism. They have an uncontrollable physical desire to consume alcohol. The alcoholic does not know when or how to stop drinking. Alcoholism is a disease of long-term recovery. The alcoholics are obsessed with alcohol and are unable to control how much they drink and dont realize if they are causing serious problems at home, or at work. Alcohol abuse generally refers to people who dont seem to be alcoholics, but still have a problem with it, and have not completely lost control over their consumption yet.

- What is Alcoholism?
Alcoholism is a chronic disease caused by prolonged and excessive consumption of alcohol. It is found in all social classes, genders and ages. Alcoholism can be produced by the combination of different factors: physiological, psychological and genetic ones. This disease is characterized by a dependence on alcohol because the alcoholic cant stop drinking or abstaining from alcohol. Gradually, alcohol becomes a drug to the drinker.

- What are the effects?


General Effects: the most common are: Excessive alcohol consumption gives a sense of joy and freedom. Then, depression and sadness appear. Finally, the drinker recovers from drunkenness and then again turns to alcohol to feel as before.

Alcohol has stimulating and exciting effects that influence the nervous system. Effects of alcoholism in adolescents: Most teenagers have consumed alcohol at least once in their life, what is normal for their age. When the teenagers drink in excess their lives are affected in terms of performance and quality. The teenager decreases his performance in their marks. Emotional ups and downs. Separated from family activities. Negative change in their health and appearance. Desire to be in isolation. The teen is on the defensive and responds aggressively.

- What are the symptoms of alcoholism?


The people suffering from alcoholism or alcohol abuse often have these symptoms: They continue drinking, although then health is being affected, as well as their work and families. They drink alone. They become violent when they drink. They are unable to stop or reduce alcohol consumption.

They invent excuses to drink. They are absent from work and their normal activities. They need more and more alcohol each day, to spend the day. They dont eat well. They try to hide alcohol. They tremble when not drinking after a period.

- What kind of health problems appear with excess of alcohol? People dont react in the same way to excessive alcohol consumption. Consequently, most of them become seriously ill and their recovery is long. Sometimes excessive alcohol consumption leads to death. Some of these illnesses can appear as result of alcohol abuse: alcohol:
Fatty Liver - Cirrhosis Pancreas Hypertension. Digestion Depression Sexual disorders Nervous system Eating Disorders Damage Fetal Psychological and social problems

Fatty Liver: It is the organ responsible for metabolizing alcohol to remove its toxins from the blood. After a long time drinking, alcoholic liver disease appears, in different states varying from inflammation to liver cirrhosis, where liver cells are replaced by fibrous cells which dont work. The patient must leave the alcohol to allow healthy liver cells to function normally and damaged cells to recover. Cirrhosis is the most complicated disease caused by alcohol in the liver. Pancreas: alcoholism causes inflammation of the pancreas, and kidneys. Hypertension: alcohol increases blood pressure, if it continues over time this situation can cause hypertension. Excessive alcohol abuse causes major damage to this organ. Digestion: Alcohol produces excess of acids which attack the mucus that protect the digestive system. This causes problems such as heartburn, vomiting, gastritis, ulcers, and occasional bleeding. It also increases the risk of suffering from digestive cancer. Depression: alcoholism promotes the patient social isolation, who prefers to drink alone, in order not to bear his family circle disapproval, which leads to depression. Sexual disorders: alcoholism often causes disorders in men and women. Nervous system: alcohol is harmful to the central and peripheral nervous system, which is irreparable. It can cause loss of memory, coordination and tremors. Eating Disorders: Alcohol abuse reduces the absorption of minerals and vitamins, which weakens the body, exposing it to infections and other diseases, such as anemia, brittle bones and osteoporosis, and also to low levels of sugar in the blood.

Damage Fetal: in pregnant women who consume alcohol, there is a risk of fetal alcoholism syndrome. The fetus doesnt develop completely, which causes the baby to experience mental disabilities and behavioral disorders. Psychological and social problems: the alcoholic is isolated, to prevent their behavior from being censured he looks bad. They often forget what they did or said. It may also appear dementia, anxiety, psychotic episodes, obsessive thinking, delirium and hallucinations. One of the biggest problems of alcoholism is the harm that alcohol causes to society, being aggressive to those around him, causing car accidents, and other problems.

- How can we help? The family plays a fundamental role in the alcoholic recovery. If the patient feels supported by their relatives his rehabilitation will be easier. The treatment, depending on the resultant diseases is long and difficult. Everything must be supervised by a specialist or an Alcoholic Rehabilitation Clinic.
