TRADITIONAL DESIGNS FOR LIGHTING OR RELIGHTING LARGE CHURCHES To more closely meei ihe modern needs of its porishioners, efforts qre being mode to effect coser poriicipo, tion of lhe congregotion in ihe service. Becouse of the need {or better lighling lo produce comfortoble reoding levels, most lighting equipmeni in older struciures is inodequote ond obsolele. Whereos provisions for proper locolion of lighting oullets con be eosily mode in new buildings, it is oflen impossible to chonge ihese locotions in existing buildings, becouse of oesihelic considerotions or prohibitive cost. ln smo ler churches, where lidhting outlet spocing is not loo greot ond ceiling heighi ollows suspension of flxtures ot oesthelico ly pleosing height for good dislribulion, the single downlighl designs shown in our T-6 Troditionol, or C-B Contemporory coiologs, ore usuolly very odequoie. For the lorger churches, however, this equlpmeni moy tre loo smoll in scole or hove insufflcient lomping pos sibilities 10 obtoin efllcient results. The dislribuiion of downlight ond lhe oreo covered ot pew level is directly dependent upon the height ol which uniis ore mounled. For uniform coveroge, the spocing between units determines this mouniing heighf. ln units using o single flxed downlight, it moy be necessory io suspend these units ol heighls greoter thon desiroble for best oesthetic requirements, due lo greoter spocing between oullels. The designs presented in this cotolog hove been developed to meel fhis poriiculor need. They ore the result of experience on mony custom insiollotions in which the Eye-Eosy engineering principles embodied hove been proven.
The incorporotion of ADJUSTABLE PER PHERAL DOWNLIGHTS using R-40 reflecior floodlomps in oddiiion to the flxed cenler downlight, provides much wider distribution of light ond sufflcient lomp woitoge for efflcienl, uniform lighling results ot reoding levels. This permiis fxtures lo be suspended at besl heights for visuol oppeoronce in spite of wider spocing between units. As o resull of ower suspension levels the lighling efficiency rs increosed, with lower wotloge required in relolion to creo covered, to produce excellent results. With the oddiiion o{ indirect ond diflused lomping, eoch of the elements of direcl, indirect ond diffused lighF ing con be switched on seporote circuiis {or vorying requiremenls, resulting in o flexible, glore {ree lighting system. The wide lotiiude of lomping possibililies permils increosing or decreosing the woitoge io ihe funciionol needs os
well os the oeslhelic effect desired. When used qs the moin Nove unil, supplementory malching equipment for olher locqlions con be found

ENERGY

CONSERVATION
LONG LAMP
LIFE
With the neod for Energy Conservolion, greoi slrides in fhe developmenl of higher ef+lciency lomp sources hove been, ond ore still being mode. These sources, whrch produce higher lumen output per wott of energy used ond give onger lomp life, oll require bolLosts, resulting in higher initiol cost of equipment, but sove electricol
consumplion over their extended life. At limes these bqllcsts con be incorporoled inlo lhe fixture but oflen becouse of insuffcient room il becomes necessory lo mounl the bollosts remotely in crowl spoce obove the ceiling, if ovoiloble. Refleclors must olso be incorporoled 10 obioin lhe most efflcienl distribulion polterns. The lomps qre olso more cosily, buf becouse of their longer life qnd reduced mointenonce cost for replocement, ihis differentiol is somewhol reduced. lncondescenf lomps shown in lhis cololog hove on overoge lomp life of 2000 hours, whereos lhe new more eflcient sources hove Jomp ives of from 7000 to os high os 24000 hours. Since church ighllng is nol used os exiensively os some olher types of genero lighting, we estimoie thoi the 2000 hocjr life of incondescenl lomps, bosed upon on overoge equipmenl use of obout lO hours per week, would proieci on overoge lomp li{e of opproximoiely 3 to 4 yeors before lomp replocement becomes necessory. With the some overoge weekLy use wiih the more efflcient lomp sources, this would result in 12 yeors or more of use before lomp replocement becomes necessory, A decision lhen becomes necessory to delermine wheiher the longer lomp life, the lower mointenonce cost to reploce omps, ond Jower energy costs oulweigh the higher initiol equiprnent cost ond higher lomp costs for iheir limited use. ln some coses, rep ocemenl of ihe incondescenl lomping wilh these more effcient lomp sources con result in 50 10 60% reduction in woiioge wilh o l0 to 55% increose in lumen outpui, ond o 3 to l0 limes lonqer lomp life. Color quolity is clso on importonl considerolion. Some energy soving lomps do not hove the besl color quolity for church lighting, ond though development in new lomp sources is conlinuing, ot presenl il is necessory to combine vorious lomp sources presently ovoiloble to obioin the besl finol results ol minimum cost. All uniis in this cotolog ore ovoiob e wilh energy efllcient lomp sources, bui on increose in equipment cost, ond cosl of omps in lhe creq of oboul l5 lo 2O/" should be onticipoied. Becouse of lhe continuing developmenis we con engineer ond propose ihe oppeoronce design of your choice, eqLripped with the most recent lomp soLrrces, ond bosed upon your specific needs, we con submit o lomping suggesiion ond quotolion upon your speciol request enclosing o set of plons for our onolysis.
