2013 USA Pro Cycling Challenge

Steamboat Springs Transit is excited to welcome the guests, participants and spectators associated with the 2013 USA Pro Cycling Challenge. We recommend that people consider SST as an option for getting around as there will be several detours, limited parking and traffic delays. In anticipation of this event, Steamboat Springs Transit has developed additional routes and stops designed to effectively move people to and around the event. Described below are these new routes, times they will operate and the best way to utilize Steamboat Springs Transit to enjoy this world class event.

Overview:
For much of the event, SST will be operating the normal Summer Schedule. During the Wednesday events, Steamboat Springs Transit will expand our service to 5 different routes between 10:00 am and 7:00 pm. These 5 routes will be: 1. The West Steamboat (brown) Line serving from the Steamboat Campground, through the Stockbridge parking lot to a special stop set up at the Core trail on 13th Street. The Lincoln Avenue (black) Line serving from the Stockbridge parking lot, up and down Oak Street and Lincoln Avenue (Hwy. 40), through the Grocery Stores and up to the Gondola Transit Center. The Yellow Line will serve much of the area that it normally serves. Due to road closures, SST will not be able to serve the Howelsen complex. The main downtown bus stop location will be at 7th and Pine rather than the Space Station at 7th and Lincoln. Continue to call (970) 846-1279 to arrange service. The Yellow Line will go out of service at its regularly scheduled 6:20 pm time. The Steamboat Boulevard (pink) Line will follow Steamboat Boulevard to avoid the congestion anticipated on Hwy. 40. This route will connect the Gondola Transit Center and a special stop located between 3rd and 4th on Oak Street. Look for the Hybrid buses (large green Hybrid decal on the side) on this route. The Condo (green) Line will serve the mountain area and transfer passengers at the Gondola Transit Center to either the Lincoln Avenue or Steamboat

Special Stops for the race:

Steamboat Springs Transit will be adding several stop and removing some stops while the detours are in place. For simplicity, SST refers to stops as Mountain Bound (MB) and Town Bound (TB). Mountain bound stops are located for buses traveling toward the ski area or in a south/east direction. Town bound buses travel from the ski area toward the downtown area or in a north/west direction. Temporary stops will be added at 13th and the Core Trail in both directions. Stops will also be added at 9th & Oak (MB), 7th & Oak (MB), 5th & Oak (MB), 4th & Oak (MB), 5th & Oak (TB), 7th & Oak (TB)and 9th & Oak (TB). Stops 44, 45, 46 and 47 located on the town bound side of Hwy. 40 will be removed on Hwy. 40 when the south side of the street is closed for the racers. Mountain bound stops at 11th & Lincoln, 9th & Lincoln, 7th & Lincoln and 5th & Lincoln as well as the Town bound stops at 3rd & Lincoln, 5th & Lincoln, 7th & Lincoln and 9th & Lincoln will all be out of service while the detours are in place. As soon as Lincoln and/or Hwy. 40 are reopened, the buses will return to the normal stops and the temporary stops will be removed.

Schedule:
Steamboat Springs Transit will be operating the regular 20-minute service schedule prior to 10:00 am on Wednesday and after 7:00 pm on Wednesday and for all day on Thursday. Extra buses will be added during peak times to assist in moving passengers to, from and around the events.

Wednesday:
Buses begin service at the normal times. At 10:00 am, buses will switch to the special service routes. The West End bus will operate on the scheduled times listed on the regular schedule. An extra West End bus will assist in providing timely service. The Yellow Line will operate on the scheduled times, but delays are expected. Your patience is appreciated and we will get the bus there as soon as possible. The main downtown location will be at 7th and Pine rather than the Space Station at 7th and Lincoln. The Green Condo Line will operate on the listed schedule times. An extra Condo Line bus will assist in providing timely service. Because of anticipated traffic delays, both the Lincoln Avenue and Steamboat Boulevard lines will operate continuously. This means that buses will run on this route as frequently as possible. Four buses are scheduled to operate on the Steamboat Boulevard line and 8 buses are scheduled to operate on the Lincoln Avenue Line. At 7:00 pm, buses will transition back to the normal Summer Routes. SST will augment the regularly scheduled service with additional buses to provide timely service throughout the route. Additional buses will also fill in after the fireworks to help transport passengers back to the mountain and out to the west.

The last bus will depart the Stockbridge, headed toward the mountain at 10:40 pm. Thursday:

Buses begin service at the normal times. They will operate on the regular schedule. Extra, non scheduled buses will operate between the regularly scheduled buses between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm to assist in providing timely service. The Gondola Transit Center will be closed prior to the start of the race, but buses will be able to access both sides of the Gondola Base (Apres Ski Way and Village Drive as well as Ski Time Square). Extra buses will be helping shuttle passengers from the Meadows Parking Lot to the Gondola Base before and after the race starts.

No additional late night service will be provided.

Many stops on the Yellow Line are served on an On Call basis. Call 846-1279 to arrange service. Because of road closures, the Yellow Line will not serve the Howelsen Complex.
