ICASO Board of Directors -- Call for Applications for Board position

Are you a woman living with HIV and want to influence AIDS and health policy around the world? Founded in 1991, the International Council of AIDS Service Organizations (ICASO) Mission is to mobilize and support communities for an effective response to end the AIDS pandemic. Our work is done within a Vision of an end to the AIDS pandemic through universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support within a human rights framework. ICASO is currently guided by its Strategic Framework 2012 2016. ICASO operates globally, regionally and locally, supporting community advocates. ICASO operates from its International Secretariat in Canada and through its partners around the world. For several years, the ICASO Board has been strengthened with two positions which are dedicated to people living with HIV (PLHIV) as a way to guarantee that the perspectives and voices of people living and affected by HIV are integral to all the work ICASO engages in. Currently one of the two Board seats reserved for PLHIV is vacant. To ensure a balanced representation the Board is specifically recruiting a woman living with HIV [WLHIV], with a strong commitment to supporting the community response to HIV, human rights, and the GIPA/MIPA Principle, who is connected to networks of PLHIV, and has an in-depth knowledge of one or more of the following areas: - policy development and advocacy - community development - high level governance or management experience Women living with HIV who are also members of key populations networks/ organizations (such as transgender, sex workers, women who use drugs, etc) are encouraged to apply. Good communication skills in English are essential as this is the Boards working language, including all documents. Most of the work is done by phone, email and through one or two inperson meetings a year. These are unpaid appointments, but ICASO will reimburse expenses related to in-person Board meeting(s). ICASO BOARD OF DIRECTORS - SPECIFICATIONS In addition to the specific requirements all board members should have: 1. An interest in international issues related to HIV and AIDS; 2. A strong commitment to supporting the community response to HIV, human rights and GIPA Principle; 3. The ability to execute responsibilities with regard to the board, which include: Determine and support the mission, vision, guiding principles and strategic framework of ICASO; Determine and abide by organizational policies; Monitor progress in meeting the mission, strategic directions and goals; Ensure the accountability to the communities served by ICASO; Ensure the financial well-being of the organization, including oversight of financial strategy and resource mobilization and monitoring financial statements; Ensure the continuity of the Board, including through the recruitment and orientation of new Board members; Promote ICASO and its policies; Contribute to a global view on the Board in addition to contributing specific perspectives; Monitor the performance of committees, including the Executive Committee; Provide input and support to the Executive Director; Approve the annual performance review of the executive director; and Select, appoint and dismiss the executive director (as necessary)
