1940's In 1940 Australia was scared of the chance of a Japanese invasion, while all the real soldiers were

at war there was no one to guard the Australian borders. March 1942 rationing came to Australia. During September 1946, daily flights going to and from Melbourne/Sydney were operated by the government-owned domestic airline Trans-Australia. This original operation led to all capital cities being connected with both passenger and freight flights. 1950's The birth of the 'suburban dream' was in the 1950s brought on a healthy way of living and many familyfocused values. With this dream, they created new suburbs by separating houses from the city and putting the houses into wide open spaces. In 1955 Japan was a big destination for Australian exports of raw minerals and other products. The USs pop music in this era of time became very popular to listen to and to watch of Television. Robert Menzies became the longest-serving Australia prime minister in 1949. In 1957 the Referendum began and finished which was about Aboriginals disadvantages all through-out Australia. 1960s This was the decade of political and social upheaval in Australia. Young people challenged the traditional way of how things were done and changed the way there parents expected them to live. They activily opposed the decisions of the government. Women demanded equal rights and others called for racial equality. The Vietnam war occurred, in doing so spawned the nuclear industry to join in creating new types of nuclear weapons. Australias population increased throughout the decade, as European and British migrants continued to arrive. Womens right in the late 1960s women marched, protested and pressured the government in a bid to gain equal rights in all spheres of life for example the workplace, education, politics and sport. The referendum was granted in this age as well as the hippie revolution. 1970s Many of the political dramas of the 1960s followed through to the 1970s. There was the withdrawal from Vietnam in the early 1970s as well as the Whitlam era. In 1972, Gough Whitlams labor government came to power. Whitlam made changes across the fields of health, education, immigration, Indigenous right, foreign affairs and industrial relations. He was the very person who saw the withdrawal of the Australians fighting in the Vietnam war through to the end, and tried to get them back as quickly as possible. The Indigenous rights in 1970s were poor. Many Indigenous people lived in poor conditions all throughout this era, but in 1976 the aboriginal land rights act was established. Womens right and wages were high on the public agenda throughout the 1970s. Women challenged the tradition of gender roles and went into the work force. There were several debates over the destruction of natural ecosystems which brought environmental issues to the forefront of public debate throughout the 1970s. 1980s This was the era where we had an economis revolution after the social revolution in the 70s. In april Advance Australia Fair was named Australians national anthem and green and gold became Australias national colors. There was a mass rise in the unemployment field due to the New York stock exchange. 1990s In the 90s this was a big year where Australian society changed a lot with new arrivals of many other kind of minorities. Australians believed at this time that we as a country should become a republic and press on towards reconciliation with the Indigenous people. During this decade Australia experienced a massive change in technology, the change of entertainment occurred with the introduction of the internet and mobile phones. 2000 The year 2000 was the celebration of a new millennium. This was also the year where Sydeny had the pleasure of holding the Summer Olympics.
