Announcement for Fall 2013 Internship Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project The Asian/Pacific Islander Domestic Violence Resource Project (DVRP) is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1995 in response to the lack of linguistically and culturally appropriate services for Asian/Pacific Islander (A/PI) survivors of domestic violence in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. DVRP's mission is to address, prevent, and end domestic violence and sexual assault in A/PI communities while empowering survivors to rebuild their lives after abuse. We believe in providing culturally appropriate tools, support, and resources for survivors to make their own life choices. DVRP is a non-hierarchical organization structured around mutual respect, shared responsibility, trust and equality, and supported by a collaborative style of leadership. Description of Internship Are you looking for an opportunity to make an impact? Would you like to work directly with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault? DVRP is currently searching for a fall intern for the Survivor Services Program. Recognizing that A/PI survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault have a variety of needs in order to attain safety for themselves and their children, the DVRP Survivor Services Program provides direct assistance on an individual level, with special consideration for cultural and linguistic needs. Tasks include: Conducting intakes and providing referral information to survivors Assisting with curriculum and program development for DVRPs survivor workshops Administering evaluation surveys Coordinating and locating resources for Advocates Training Recruiting and assisting with the training agenda for the Advocates Training Updating organizational information and resource lists for the Survivor Services Program Help plan and attend Advocates meetings (one Saturday every month) Other relevant duties, as assigned Note: This is an unpaid internship. Time Commitment: This internship lasts from late August/early September 2013 until December 2013, but dates can be somewhat flexible. Interns should have availability during DVRPs business hours (Mondays-Fridays 10am-6pm), and some weekend hours as needed. Interns are required to commit to at least 10 hours per week.
