Learning Objectives Qualitatively identify the various forms of energy transformations in simple demonstrations. Illustrate that energy can be transformed from one form to another, using examples from everyday life. (12.6:b) Solve problems involving work, power and energy. Calculate potential and kinetic energy from theoretical and experimental situations. Calculate efficiency by identifying the useful energy in a process.(12.8:a) Model conservation of energy and momentum, using elastic and inelastic collisions. Apply Ohms law to a series and parallel circuit. Assemble series and parallel circuits. Solve simple equations using Ohms law. Solve problems involving current, potential difference, resistance and power. Magnets and magnetic fields. Electromagnets and applications inc relays. Catapult field effect and simple D.C. Motor. Transformers and national grid.

Learning Activities Circus of experiments to illustrate different forms of energy and energy changes. Using Steam engine as model power station. Linear air tracks for conservation of energy experiments PE to KE, and efficiency or comparison of electric motors with P = I.V Linear air tracks for conservation of momentum relate to crumple zones D.C. circuits Worcester Board type experiments review Series and Parallel circuits and use of ammeters and voltmeters. Ohms law experiment and compare Ohmic and nonOhmic components. Resistors in S & P and factors affecting the resistance of a wire. Magnetic fields permanent and electromagnet Catapult field experiment Flemings and Motor effect. Motors in reverse i.e. Dynamos leading into Model National grid and the use of transformers.
