INFORMATION BULLETIN Saturday August 17, 2013 3: 00 p.m.

TT MET OFFICE indicates that showery activity associated with a tropical wave will lead to street and flash flooding The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has indicated that over the past few hours, parts of Trinidad, particularly the southern and eastern areas have been experiencing cloudy conditions with moderate to heavy showers and thundershowers. This is due to a surge in moisture associated with the approach of a tropical wave. Tobago is experiencing fair to partly cloudy conditions, but is under the same moist unstable environment. Cloudy to overcast conditions with moderate to heavy showers and thundershowers will continue over Trinidad during the next 2-3 hours before becoming settled by late evening. Cloudy conditions are expected to again increase for both Trinidad and Tobago by late night as the Tropical Wave passes overnight with moderate to heavy showers and thundershowers occurring. This will continue for 12-18 hours before becoming settled by the evening of August 18th. Gusty winds will accompany moderate and heavy rainfall and the possibility of landslips/landslides and localized street/flash flooding may occur in the vicinity of heavy downpours. Noting the amount of rainfall expected and the forecast for the continuation of this rainfall activity, rivers of moderate carrying capacity may become bankfull and possibly overtop. The ODPM, as the National Disaster Office, has alerted all first responder and emergency support agencies so that assistance can be rendered to affected persons. The ODPM will continue to monitor the situation and any updates from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service will be communicated to the public. Citizens are asked to remain vigilant and are reminded to contact 511 if they have been adversely affected. The ODPM continues to remind citizens of the following:Be extra vigilant and cautious at this time. Elevate valuable and place important documents in sealed containers or bags. Look out for collapsed pavements and fallen rocks. Do not walk/drive through flood waters. Please check the ODPM website, www.odpm.gov.tt or contact 511 for more preparedness tips. WE WISH TO UNDERSCORE THAT AT THIS TIME TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO IS NOT UNDER ANY TROPICAL STORM THREAT, WATCH OR WARNING. ENDS
