Asia across the Disciplines


The 9th Asian Center Graduate Students Conference on Asian Studies December 7, 2013, GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center Auditorium Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman About the Conference Organized by AC Balangay, the graduate student organization of the Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, the 9th Asian Center Graduate Students Conference on Asian Studies offers MA and PhD students a multidisciplinary forum where they can share their research findings, broaden their intellectual horizons, and interact with fellow students.

Conference Topics Participants are welcome to submit a research paper that pertains to Asia and covers at least one of the following topics: Politics and Governance Trade, Economy or Finance Foreign Policy and International Relations Regionalism Identity Security (Traditional or Non-Traditional) Migration, Diaspora and Transnationalism Globalization in/and Asia

Media and Culture Environment Arts and Literature Gender Religion History

Application Requirements Abstract should not exceed 300 words and must be submitted with a (1) curriculum vitae, (2) proof of enrollment as a graduate student and (3) a scanned image of government-issued identification card. Papers should be in English, 18-25 pages long (including notes and bibliography), 1.5 spaced, Times New Roman, and font 12.

Guidelines for Confirmed Participants Please go over this section again once you have received your notice of acceptance from the organizers. Registration Fee Participants should pay a registration fee of Php 500.00 (about 10 USD). Please note that this should be paid in Philippine peso before the conference. Food, Airfare, and Accommodation Confirmed participants from outside the Philippines are asked to shoulder the costs of airfare, local transportation, food, and lodging during their stay in Manila. Snacks and lunch, however, will be provided during the conference. Also, on the day of the conference, participants will be asked to meet at a convenient, designated place to and from which they will be serviced by the Asian Center van.
