MASS of ANOINTING
This Mass is offered on the first Friday of each month in the St. Paul Chapel at 12:10 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to allow the Blessed oils to become a part of dealing for whatever reason. All are welcome.
People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. Mother Teresa

PASTORAL CORNER Lily of the Nile
Waiting is not something many of us do well. Last week my dad had to go in for a cat-scan and a bone scan. The actual procedures don't take all that long but waiting for the various dyes to take hold do. In by 10:00 am out by 4:00 pm with huge gaps in between. Okay, I had my iPhone and iPad, I was good to go, or so I thought. One can only read so much, or play solitaire for so long. Sooner or later you begin to go nuts in the head. The background noise in my head was my hope all the tests would come out well, flashing from one what if to another. At one point I found myself sitting outside, warm sun, green grass and one lonely Lily of the Nile. I have always liked Lily's of the Nile and they usually grow in large patches, usually around a pool of water. This Lily wasn't anywhere near a pool of water, just all by itself, standing tall and proud. I began to "consider" the Lily. I watched it, beheld it if you will. It was perfect. It was doing exactly what it was suppose to be doing. Nothing could be added or subtracted from it. Not to get too high fluting it was in essence and actuality, perfect. Not to sound overly pious, it was giving glory to God just by being what it is suppose to be. As I considered it, thoughts about the procedures, all the what-iffing I was doing vanished. Whether we know it or not moments like this are movements toward prayer, they are movements into a state of prayer; and prayer of the most valuable kind. We become like the Lily. We move into a place of non judgment. We become a beholder, one creature beholding another and hopefully we can begin to appreciate how God's unconditional love beholds us -- totally nonjudgmentally. Some find it difficult to begin praying but this kind of meditation can happen anywhere, whether we are in the middle of a crowd or all alone. All one has to do is allow ourselves to sink into whatever situation we find ourselves, to behold it, be non judgmental, open to the possibilities present in any given situation. Moses beheld the Burning Bush, Mary beheld Gabriel, John the Baptist beheld the Lamb of God; beholding can lead us to transformational moments, moments of insight, moments of deep peace, and moments when we feel the presence of God in our bones. Jesus bids us, "look at the Lily's of the field... Fr. Michael E. Evernden, CSP

JUST A THOUGHT
Where are your personal priorities? The Scriptures today speak about frequently checking our priorities and practicing some good old-fashion self-discipline. Maybe we need to change our priorities---its never too late. Self-reflection is a good place to start. Then--find someone you really trust and respectand talk with them about your concerns. And---the Church offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a safe place to help us re-order our priorities.

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Now is the time to step up. If you would like to be trained as a Reader/Lector or Eucharistic Minister for our Parish, please call the Parish office.

ANGELS and SAINTS at EPHASUS

It's not exactly the Beatles vs. the Rolling Stones, but just as those two bands shook up the pop charts nearly a half-century ago, two convents' CDs are vying for a spot atop the Billboard classical music charts. The defending champion, for 13 weeks straight, is "Angels and Saints at Ephesus," performed by the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles, a cloistered convent in Missouri. Their streak marks the first time since 2006 that a CD has stayed at the top of Billboard magazine's classical traditional music chart. So far, it has kept its competition at arms' length, including a new CD by Andrea Bocelli and soundtracks based on the TV miniseries "Downtown Abbey." But now comes the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, based in Ann Arbor, Mich., whose first CD, "Mater Eucharistae," was released Aug. 13. This isn't the Dominican convent's first brush with the mass media. Members of the order made it to the finals in the latest season of "American Bible Challenge." (CNS-WASHINGTON)
