Cessna's Discover Flying Challenge will be making a stop in Panama City Beach, Florida on July 12th. Stephen "The Scholar" West, an aerospace engineering student selected by Cessna to represent the Southeast region, will be landing his customized Cessna Skyhawk 172 aircraft. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness for Cessna's charitable partners like the American Red Cross and inspire people about aviation. Visitors will have the chance to meet Stephen, see his aircraft, and learn about flight training from the attending Island Air Express flight school. second
Discover
Flying
Challenge
(DFC),
to
represent
the
Southeast
region
of
the
USA
will
be
landing
at
the
Northwest
Florida
Beaches
International
Airport
for
a
meet
and
greet
on
July
12th.
The
DFC
is
an
opportunity
for
six
aviation
students
selected
from
a
variety
of
applicants
to
fly
across
the
United
States
for
an
adventure
of
a
lifetime.
Visitors
will
have
the
chance
to
meet
with
Stephen
and
check
out
the
new,
customized,
Cessna
Skyhawk
172
Stephen
will
be
piloting
for
the
summer.
The
DFCs
main
goal
is
to
raise
awareness
for
their
charitable
partners
while
inspiring
people
to
fly.
Cessna
has
paired
with
five
outstanding
charities
to
raise
awareness
for
a
mutual
purpose:
American
Red
Cross,
Experimental
Aircraft
Association
Young
Eagles,
Special
Olympics,
United
Way
and
Veterans
Airlift
Command.
In
addition
to
attending
Cessna
events
and
meet
and
greets
in
their
selected
regions,
pilots
will
also
be
attending
partners
events
like
the
Special
Olympics
Summer
Games
and
EAA
Young
Eagles
rallies.
Stephen
The
Scholar
is
an
Aerospace
Engineering
major
from
North
Carolina.
Stephen
gets
the
name
The
Scholar
because
of
his
high
GPA
and
academically
centered
dreams
of
inventing
an
alternative
for
jet
fuel.
In
the
last
month,
Stephen
has
touched
down
in
several
locations
from
Wichita,
Kansas
to
Atlanta,
Georgia.
Visitors
will
have
a
chance
to
meet
Stephen,
other
local
student
pilots
and
trainers.
Stephens
Skyhawks
advanced
cockpit
and
avionics
will
also
be
on
display
for
curious
visitors
to
step
up
and
examine.
Island
Air
Express,
a
local
flight
training
company,
will
also
be
there
with
helpful
staff
that
will
answer
questions
and
provide
information
to
anyone
interested
in
flying.
