0.10 - Los Nmeros en Ingles: Cardinales y Ordinales Los nmeros son muy importantes en la vida diaria, por lo tanto en el aprendizaje del idioma ingles no puede faltar este tema. La clasificacin general de los nmeros son 2, divididos en: cardinales (expresar cantidades) y ordinales (expresan un orden). Los nmeros cardinales Estos nmeros son los considerados "nmeros primarios" o "primordiales". Este tipo de nmeros los usamos para expresar cantidades. A continuacin se muestra una lista de los veinte primeros nmeros cardinales incluyendo como se escribe en ingls y la manera de leerse. Estos veinte primeros nmeros sirven de base para aprenderse los restantes:

Como se puede ver, a partir de 13, la terminacin de los nmeros es "-teen", esto es debido a que corresponden a la decena despus del 10 "ten". A partir del 20 "twenty" las decenas las forman la partcula "-ty" al final. Se les conoce a estos nmeros como regulares ya que estn formados por la decena, centena o millar ms el nmero natural como se puede ver en la siguiente lista.

Para nombrar las centenas debemos usar la palabra "hundred" despus del nmero indicado:

Nota: las palabras "hundred", "thousand" y "million" no se pluralizan (5 million, no 5 millions o 9 hundred no 9 hundreds) Todos los nmeros que restan por mencionar aqu consisten nicamente en una combinacin de los vistos en esta leccin. Para conectar centenas, millares y millones con decenas y unidades, utilizamos la palabra "and" ("y" en espaol). Ejemplos: 145 (One hundred and forty-five) 666 (Six hundred and sixty-six) 908 (Nine hundred and eight) 1,345 (One thousand three hundred and forty-five) 196,456 (One hundred ninety six thousand four hundred and fifty six) 5,456,678 (Five million four hundred fifty six thousand six hundred and seventy-eight) 75,763,123 (Seventy five million seven hundred sixty three thousand one hundred and twenty-three) Entre el nmero es ms grande se tiende a volver ms complicado el formar los nmeros pero como se puede ver en los ejemplos todo es cuestin de conocer las bases de estos mismos y la estructura para formarlos. Nota: Es comn que nmeros como 1,600 ; 2,300 ; 4,500 (nmeros de miles con centenas cerradas) sean nombradas al hablar en trminos de centenas. En este caso 1,600 (Sixteen Hundred); 2,300 (Twenty three hundred) ; 4,500 (Forty five hundred). Se hace esto porque el multiplicar el nmero base por 100 da el nmero mencionado (16 x 100 = 1600). Emplear esta forma de decir los nmeros es especialmente utilizado en el ingls norteamericano.

Los nmeros ordinales Son aquellos que ordenan un conjunto de elementos de acuerdo a su posicin en determinada sucesin numrica.

Regla 1 - A partir del nmero veinte para formar un nmero ordinal que termine en 1, 2 o 3 se empleara el asignado correspondientemente first, second y third con la nomenclatura normal de los cardinales. Ejemplos:

Regla 2 - Para los nmeros que terminen distinto que 1, 2 y 3 a partir del 20 se le agregara "-th" al final para formar su nmero ordinal: Ejemplos:

Siguiendo las dos reglas anteriores se pueden formar cualquiera de los nmeros ordinales entre el vigsimo y millonsimo, para ello es tambin muy importante conocer las bases de los nmeros cardinales.
