The Last Outside Credit EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angry Young Indians, May 11, 2013, www.economist.com.

The employment rate in China has boomed drastically in recent years. Hundreds of millions of Chinese have found productive work in the growing cities. This employment boom is the biggest one ever recorded in the world. India is quickly catching up to China and will soon surpass it as their population of working age citizens rises. The Indian working age population increased by approximately twelve million dollars this year alone. Within the next ten years, India has will become the largest potential workforce on the planet. I thought this was weird, but I was okay with it. The Indian youth, apparently, is not. Due to the increasingly massive size of their work force, the main jobs available in India to the youth (when there are jobs actually available) are construction jobs. India creates far, far, FAR more construction than manufacturing jobs. The youth of India has no hope of becoming anything, and so they drop out earlier than they should. Many of them cannot perform even a rudimentary job. India might be receiving a lot of Chinas manufacturing business soon as the Chinese workforce lessens and wages raise. India is ill suited for mass manufacturing. From their lack of labor hungry, midsized firms and trained workers, to their outdated laws and prejudice towards youth women, India is not prepared for a major influx of factories.

A New Military Draft Would Revive A Very Bad Old Idea, 7/16/2012, Doug Bandow, www.forbes.com.

Some Politicians want to bring back the conscription of 18 year olds. For the last forty years, Americas military has operated under the All-Volunteer Force. This brought improved quality and selectiveness to the military. Volunteers are more likely to want to be there, and so will be more positive, less likely to desert, and more likely to pay attention and try. They also have a higher reenlistment rate, reducing turnover, and enhancing the general experience of the army. Conscription would make us less effective in battle and end up costing more American lives. One argument for conscription, by Thomas Ricks of the CNAS, is that reestablishing the draft would save the government money. Not only is that unlikely to get people jumping in joy to go into service, but its also a load of crap. The whole conscription process wouldnt save money. Conscripted soldiers serve shortened terms, rarely reenlist (raising turnover, which is costly), and cost money to train, arm, and ship that could be spent on a willing soldier. And it wouldnt reduce costs, only shift them somewhere else. Im taking this from the text, but it was too perfect. Ricks suggested that draftees should perform tasks currently outsourced at great cost to the Pentagon: paperwork, painting barracks, mowing lawns, driving generals around. So he wants to make young people go into the military so the Old Farts at the top can save on tax dollars. Nice. Oh, and then he wants to jail them if they refuse. Beyond that, I think its wrong ethically. We are a free nation (well, somewhat free) and a draft would not only be wrong, hypocritical, and pointless, it would also stir up the people. Unless we are in another World War, or everyone suddenly quits the military, we have not need to draft conscripts. If it ever gets that bad, young men will probably sign up on their own anyway.

How Marco Rubio Seeks To Cure An Old, Horrible, Secret Immigration Deal, Ralph Benko, 4/22/2013, www.forbes.com

The Heritage Foundation is attacking Marco Rubio because he is in favor of a comprehensive immigration reform. This reform would include a way for illegal aliens to gain American citizenship by proving that they are of good character. Heritage has lost its mind. Apparently, there was a secret immigration deal made thirty years ago that Rubio wants to fix. Rubio stated that What we have in place is horrible for America. According to one of the negotiators of the deal, the immigration law made in 1986 was based on the understanding that while future immigration would be restricted, those restrictions would not be enforced. The plan was meant to fail. This was meant to be as a way for both proimmigration and anti-immigration lobbyists to feel like they had won. While they had won politically, we basically screwed America over. The Heritage Foundation says that forming a way for aliens to become citizens would create large net costs to our economy. On the other side, Rubio states that bringing millions of undocumented aliens out of the underground economy will improve the labor market, increase entrepreneurship and create jobs, leading to a net increase in economic growth and reducing the deficit. I think Rubio makes more sense and provides more pros to his plan. According to the article, abundant economic analysis supports Rubios position. I think Rubio makes sense. I say we allow the law abiding, contributing illegal immigrants a chance to earn their citizenship. But I still say we should ship the ones in prison, or committing crimes, or not contributing to American society at all back to where they came from.
