Year 11 GCSE English

(Sets 5 and B)

What will be studied this term

This term, Year 11 will be completing a controlled assessment on: Imaginative writing. Students have to produce two pieces of linked writing as directed by the OCR examining body. The tasks will be chosen by KSSC staff from those offered by OCR. In addition there will be opportunities to improve previously assessed tasks.

Students will: Write to communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively, using and adapting forms and selecting vocabulary appropriate to task and purpose in ways that engage the reader. Organise information and ideas into structured and sequenced sentences, paragraphs and whole texts, using a variety of linguistic and structural features to support cohesion and overall coherence. Use a range of sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect, with accurate punctuation and spelling.

How will work be assessed

Work will be assessed using OCR writing grade criteria. These are official controlled assessments which make up one unit of the exam and will be written in examination conditions.

What needs to be done at home

Differentiated skills based tasks will be given according to the needs of the groups. These include: planning ideas, planning paragraphs and reading appropriate texts for research. Homework tasks and resources are available via the facultys website, BeENGspired, which can be found through the school website.
