World Leader in Melt Filtration

Iron Foundry Filters SELEE IC Ceramic Foam Filters

Product Description
SELEE IC iron filters are ceramic foam filters (CFF) for nodular, gray, and malleable iron castings. Ceramic foam filters effectively remove nonmetallic inclusions including slag and dross from the molten metal stream when properly placed within the gating system. SELEE IC filters also aid in reducing turbulence in the gating system and are designed to withstand the high temperatures required in an iron foundry. SELEE IC filters are available in many standard sizes, square, rectangular and round. Custom sizes are available upon request. To ensure proper filtration for each iron type, SELEE IC filters are offered in three pore sizes.

Application Information
Gating System Design
Effective filter function dictates that the filter does not restrict the metal flow in the gating system or act as the choke. In order to ensure this, it is recommended that the effective filter area, (the area of filter less print) be at least 4 to 6 times the total choke area in the system.

Filter Flow Rate

Iron Foundry Filters SELEE IC

Flow rates vary due to various factors. Gating design, metal cleanliness, head pressure, pouring techniques, and metal temperature. The flow rate data shown below is based upon previous testing and this data should be used as a starting point for initial filter application decisions.

Total Metal Flow Prior to Blockage

A filter has a finite capacity in terms of how much metal can be filtered through a given area before the filter becomes blocked with inclusion material. The following are estimated maximums for the total amount of iron that can be filtered through a SELEE IC filter. Actual performance depends upon specific foundry conditions.
