SMART is a convenient acronym for the set of criteria that a goal must have in order for it to be realised by the goal achiever:

Specific Measurable Actions Realistic

detail what your goal is and how you will meet it. Outline the benefits of achieving the goal.

make sure progress towards goal completion can be measured.

what steps will help you achieve your goal? Are they achievable?

the goal must be something that can be done. Acknowledge your abilities and any limitations. Is the goal in line with your values, desires, ethics, life purpose?

Timely

set a deadline for achieving the goal

Johns work has given him 1.5 years off to study John has no other family commitments so believes he is able to study a full-time load of four subjects per semester Research public health initiatives in Australia
