Crazy Motif Bolero Crochet Along

If you bought the Crazy Motif Bolero pattern, here is the CrochetAlong/Support Page f or the pattern. I will be making at least one motif a day to complete the bolero in 1-2 months. Along each step of the way, I will include notes addressing questions that crocheters have asked about the pattern, including corrections and updates to the pattern. T he Crazy Motif Bolero pattern (some 14 pages of instructions in a total of 20 pages) is not f or the f aint-hearted. T he bolero consists of twenty-f our join-asyou-go motif s, each one dif f erent. T hat said, this pattern is perf ect f or those who cant stand crocheting the same motif s over and over to make a garment.

With such a complex pattern as this, even experienced crocheters may run into problems, and my own pattern writing may contain errors or conf using instructions/terms. T his page provides support f or crocheters encountering dif f iculties completing the bolero. If you bought this pattern, I would like you to be able to make this bolero f or yourself to wear, or to give as a gif t, or to sell in your own hand-crochet shop. T here is also the Crazy Motif Bolero support group at http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/crochetology/2532743/ CHOOSING T HE YARN For this Crochet Along, I am using Ice Yarns Floss Spiral (lilac color) which is viscose-polyester yarn. It is listed as a Sport/5 ply (12wpi) but it f eels heavier than most Sport-weight yarns Ive tried. I am using 4mm hook with this and the f irst motif measures 4.25. I like to use this yarn because it is heavier and will lie f lat better on the body. Recommended yarns include Lotus Yarns Baby Camel 4-ply (Dk weight), and Lotus Yarns Autumn Wind (Dk

weight). Experiment with other yarn weights and f ibres. I have also tried Sport weight yarn which results in a lighter, lacier bolero. For a bolero to f it 37 bust, youll need at least 500 meters of yarn. GAUGE AND SIZ ING T he pattern uses the gauge: MOT IF #1 FRONT = 4/10cm using hook size 9 (3.5mm) Experiment with larger hook or yarn. T hen you could multiply your gauge motif width by 9.25 and youll get the approximate bust size. So, a 4.5 motif gauge should f it a 41 bust. CROCHET ALONG BOLERO FRONT BOLERO FRONT MOT IF # 1 Rnd 4: 2 dc tog over next 2 dc is explained as thus: Yo, insert hook in dc, yo, pull yarn through, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, skip (hdc, sc, sc, hdc), insert hook in next dc, yo, pull yarn through, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through all 3 loops. When you reach the end of Rnd 4, the instruction says sl st in f irst dc to join. First dc ref ers to the f irst 3 of ten ch made at the beginning of the Rnd. T hen, at the end of Rnd 5 you should have twelve 5ch loops.

Yarn over hook and draw yarn through stitch f ive loops on the hook. Loop yarn over hook and draw through two loops, (there are now f our loops remaining on the hook), yarn over hook and draw through two loops, repeat to ** twice more. BO LERO FRO NT AND BACK J O INED WITHO UT SLEEVES

T HE SLEEVES IN PROGRESS Note About Sleeves: T heres actually the same number of loops on each sleeve, not counting the

chain spaces with dc (or other st) between them. If Im not mistaken there are 18 loops. You can just make the chain loops in each of these loops rather than making 16 of them as instructed in the pattern. T here will also be one area where youll have more loops close together but I f ind that those dont make much dif f erence as the loops f all evenly together. T he two sleeves are also not meant not be exactly alike as the places where they are built f rom are not the same. I also f ind that with this type of (sport-weight, rather heavy) yarn, I dont need to make the smaller motif s to f ill in the gaps between the main motif s. Makes lif e easier!
