Welcome

September 1 2013

Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much as we can, we want to help you feel at home here. In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card for you to complete. There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make. All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute
The Pastoral Team spent a couple of days at Victor Harbor this week as part of our annual retreat. We had a number of sessions. At the beginning of each session we watched a short teaching video and then discussed a range of issues that came out of it. Let me share a few quotes. I know you will not know the context of these words but I believe they still have the capacity to challenge us. Our precedent has more power than our imagination What if the Church became the best human incubator for producing the worlds best community.. One speaker likened the gospel to a virus and questioned how much it is infecting our society. He posed the question, Have we exposed our culture to a weak Christian virus that has only succeeded in making people immune to the gospel..? Christians have done well at communicating to the world what we stand against, but not so well at what we stand for If you dont have a theology of suffering, you dont have need of redemption You are not impacted by information transfer but because someone is committed to you God does not present himself in this world by saying, every question they have, I will answer, or every problem they have I will solve. Instead, over and over and over again he says the same thing. I am with you. I will never leave you. I will never forsake you. If the incarnation means anything it means that our task is not to teach dis-embodied theological concepts. It is to be Gods skin. What a stirring time we had as God reminded us and renewed in us the incredible privilege of being Gods incarnated presence in this world. As a team, we want to thank you for giving us the time to be refreshed and renewed in God. We had a great time and apart from everything else, we just enjoyed being together. God Bless Neil

Christian Option Program

The team is currently preparing to commence another Christian Option Program in Highgate Primary School. This years topic is Heroes. We discuss popular and unknown Heroes in society and also Jesus as the Hero of Christians. We have three classes ranging from years 5-7. (One class is Barbara Adcocks). Our nd th seminars run on a Monday mornings on the following dates 2 & 9 September. Prayer suggestions include: 1. Health and safety of the team and their families. 2. That the team leader (Anita Venning) and the team will be thoroughly prepared. 3. That the team and program is delivered in a vibrant, applicable and relevant way so the children can experience living out what they have learnt. 4. As many children attend as possible and that the chil dren and teachers ears would be open to hear the message. 5. (There are plans to offer a morning tea for the staff also) Pray that plenty of donations arrive on time and that the staff would be blessed. Thankyou for your faithfulness in praying for this ministry. We value your support very much. Kind Regards Catherine Warnecke

Our Missionary Families

The Badger Family Tim, Bron, Stephen, Joshua, Amie, Annalise & Kaitlyn OMF, Manila, Philippines Everyone loves a good story and stories are a great way to share the Gospel or your personal testimony with family and friends. Many Asian cultures are deeply rooted in the use of story, so naturally it becomes a great tool on the mission field as well as in the local community. We'd like to encourage you all to take some time to learn more about what God is doing through telling stories and how you can become better story tellers yourselves by attending the OMF South Australian State Conference. You'll find the details in this bulletin so please make sure you RSVP. A children's program will be provided so you can take the whole family along too. Its great to be back home in Japan. We are very thankful that Joshuas surgery went smoothly and he was ab le to travel well on the plane. We praise God for opportunities to reconnect with Japanese friends soon after we arrived as well as the encouragement of meeting a man who has started attending SonRise Church as a result of studying English at the caf during the summer! Please pray for our friends and contacts as we continue to reach out and share Gods love with them. We appreciate your prayers for the coming week for Rachel and Jessica as they familiarise themselves with their school routine, for Joshua as he starts kindergarten again from Thursday, for Owen as he participates in a 3 day TEAM leadership retreat and planning session and for Sarah as she recommences her mummy and me English class (and keeps on top of all the different family schedules!).
