System Software Installation

The imagePASS-D1 System Software CD contains the system software. Use the System Software CD in the following situations: When replacing hard disks When upgrading system software

1.1 Note If the system software is reinstalled, all downloaded files, additional fonts, job logs, and other such files will be deleted from the hard drive. Be sure to explain this to the users administrator and take all necessary measures such as backups first.

1.2 Items to Prepare When installing system software, prepare the following items: The PC (Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP) on which the downloading tool (PDL Downloader) is installed. Use version 3.1.4.1 or newer of the PDL Downloader A Centronics cable that supports the IEEE 1284 standard (a cable displaying IEEE 1284 Std Compliant) or a Canon USB-Parallel cable (part number FY9-4154-000, Windows 98/2000/XP only). Windows 2000/XP does not allow for high-speed parallel communication. As such, when using

Windows 2000/XP, the Canon USB-Parallel cable is preferred in order to allow for higher speed data transfer. The System Software CD-ROM

1.3 Preparations Since the system software installation will clear the setting information, print out the Configuration Page first. 1) Press the copier control panels Printer tab, and then select the Printer Status/Settings button. 2) Select Functions.

3) Select Print Pages.

4) Select Configuration.

5) The configuration page showing the imagePASS-D1 setting information will be printed. Save this page for use after installation.

1.4 Preparing the PC Install the downloading tool (PDL Downloader) first. The system software is supplied on CD-ROM. When installing onto a PC that lacks an internal CD-ROM drive, an external CD-ROM drive will need to be available. A connection can also be made to a service center over the network, or an external CD-ROM drive at the service center, and the system files can be copied from the system software CD-ROM to the PCs hard disk.

1.5 Connecting the imagePASS-D1 to the PC 1) After obtaining permission from the users administrator, shut down the imagePASS-D1, turn its power off, and then turn the copiers power off.

Shutdown Procedure The imagePASS-D1 has a shutdown function that protects the hard disk from damage. Be sure to shut the imagePASS-D1 down before turning its power off. a) b) c) If the copier is in copy mode, press the Printer tab. Press the Printer Status/Settings button. Verify that the LCD shows Idle.

d) e)

Select Functions from the LCD. Select Shut Down from the Functions menu.

f)

Select Shut Down System from the Shut Down menu. The LCD will show Shut down in progress then Shut down printer

g)

Turn the imagePASS-D1s power switch off when the following message is displayed: Print Server (with network connection) shut down. Turn off the main power switch for the main unit and print server behind the main unit. Note: After turning the imagePASS-D1s power off, wait at least 10 seconds before turning it back on again.

h)

Turn the copiers power off.

2) Remove the cable connecting the users PC to the network. 3) Use the Centronics cable or USB-Parallel cable to connect the imagePASS-D1s parallel port with the printer port of the PC with the downloading tool installed. Remember to select the appropriate cable type in PDL Downloader. 4) Turn the PCs power on.

1.6 System Installation 1) Use the prepared PCs PDL Downloader shortcut, or select PDL Downloader from the Start menus Programs to launch the downloading tool.

2) Click the Select button. Select iRD1_Vxxxbot.efi from the System CD (xxx indicates the version) and click the Open button.

3) Set both of the imagePASS-D1s download switches (DL) to face downward (the direction closest to the motherboard). 4) Make sure that the imagePASS-D1s power switch is in the on position.

5) Turn on the copiers main power switch (which will turn on both the copier and the imagePASS-D1), and immediately click PDL Downloaders Download button. After a moment, the download will begin, and after the download, the Boot sequence will begin. If the LCDs status line finishes after the power is turned on without this operation, a timeout will occur, and the system will not be installable. If this happens, turn the power off on the imagePASS-D1 and the copier, and follow the procedures in 1.6 System Installation to redo the download. 6) Approximately 20 seconds after the PDL Downloader completes, once the message Config Mode settings ready appears in the copiers status line (the bottom of the LCD), press the Printer tab and select Printer Status/Settings. 7) The Config Mode Settings screen will appear. Select Yes to enter Config Mode. If Yes is not clicked within approximately 30 seconds of when Config Mode settings ready. is displayed, Config Mode will end. If this happens, turn the power off on the imagePASS-D1 and the copier, and follow the procedures in 1.6 System Installation to redo the download.

8) Click the Select button on the PCs PDL Downloader. Select iRD1_Vxxxsys_R.efi (xxx indicates the version) from the System CD and click the Open button.

9) Select Installation from the Choose Function screen.

10) Flushing parallel port. Please wait. will be displayed, followed approximately 10 seconds later by Copy software to parallel port. Select OK and follow step 11 below immediately. If step 11 is not performed

immediately, the message will change from Installation is in progress to Installation failed Time Out [4], and the system will not be installable due to the time out. If this happens, select OK in the Installation failed Time Out [4] screen, and redo the procedure from step 9.

11) Click PDL Downloaders Download button. After the hard disk is formatted, the system installation will begin. System installation takes approximately 15 minutes. If the download occurs normally, the item currently being processed will appear on the copiers LCD, along with that process progress ratio on the status line.

When the Download button is clicked and the download is begun, the Cancel button will be enabled. If this button is clicked and the download is cancelled, clicking the Download button again will not transfer the files normally, and the process will be aborted. For this reason, once the download has begun, do not cancel the installation before the system software is installed normally. If the download is cancelled for some reason, follow the steps in 1.6 System Installation to redo the download. Until the system software download completes, the imagePASS-D1 will not function as a PDL board. Since the copiers LCD will revert to the copy screen every 2 minutes during the download, press the

Printer tab, and select the Printer Status/Settings button to verify the progress state on the status line.

1.7 Operation After Download Is Complete 1) Once the download is complete, the message Installation was successful. will appear on the LCD. OK. Turn the power of the copier and imagePASS-D1 off. Click

2) Click the download tools End button and exit the download tool.

3) After turning the PCs power off, disconnect the Centronics cable or USB-Parallel cable connecting the imagePASS-D1 with the PC.

4) Return the imagePASS-D1s Download switches to the original position (the direction far away from the motherboard). 5) Reconnect all cables that you disconnected before downloading. 6) Turn the power of the copier and imagePASS-D1 on. 7) The Setup Menu will be entered automatically when selecting the Printer tab and the Print Status/Settings button is pressed after the imagePASS-D1 launch completes successfully. Use the settings page printed before installation to set up the imagePASS-D1. (At a minimum, set the settings in the order Server Setup, Network Setup, and Printer Setup and save all item changes, or the Done button will not be enabled. If a mistake is made in the order of the settings, the message Please set XXX before setting XXX will be displayed, and the settings can not be made).

Once the settings are complete, select the Done button. The message Restarting printer Wait a moment will appear, and the imagePASS-D1 will restart.

1.8 Operation Check 1) After the imagePASS-D1 finishes launching, press the copier LCDs Printer tab. The Printer Status/Settings button will be enabled. 2) 3) Press the Printer Status/Settings button. Select Functions.

4) Select Print Pages.

5) Select PS Test.

5) Verify that the test page has printed out normally. 6) Print the Configuration in the same way, and verify that that imagePASS-D1 is set correctly.
