I am writing to inform you of some exciting opportunities available to your child through Advanced Band this year. Some of this information is new and time-sensitive, so please read through it carefully. Contact me as soon as possible if you need assistance. Thank you for your time! Advanced Band students will: Learn more complex and exciting music, Learn new challenging concepts in music theory that will make them better musicians, Learn higher/lower note ranges on their instruments, Learn ensemble and solo techniques for performance and success, Attend an end-of-year band day trip, Participate in school events such as assemblies and pep rallies, Earn a KIPP Band t-shirt, Purchase an instrument (see below for details), AND Play at concerts throughout the year. Purchasing an Instrument PURCHASING ON YOUR OWN There are many places from which you can buy a musical instrument, but some establishments offer better service and value than others. Please contact Ms. Schuster via phone or e-mail if you plan to purchase one yourself to avoid spending too much money. Students and their families are responsible for ALL repairs needed on their instruments. The Woodwind Brasswind Company, www.wwbw.com , is a reliable website you can visit to purchase inexpensive instruments. RENTING THROUGH A MUSIC STORE For a fee of $29.99-59.99/month, many musical instruments can be purchased through rent-toown programs. Please call the numbers below for exact pricing and terms. If your student decides he/she no longer wishes to participate in the program, the instrument can be returned at no additional cost or obligation. It can cost more money in the long-term to do a rent-to-own program, so please understand the terms/rates before agreeing. Why do we have to buy an instrument? High schools rarely own their own woodwind and smaller brass instruments. Having an instrument now will ensure your students success in high school and beyond! Practice is necessary for students to grow musically. Students who can take instruments home are at a definite advantage because they can learn in a hands-on way at home. Parents get an opportunity to be involved in their childrens music education when they hear the homework and development happening at home. It has become too expensive for us to pay for repairs yearly on school-owned instruments.

Por qu tenemos que comprar un instrumento? Las escuelas secundarias raramente poseen su propio instrumento de viento de madera e instrumentos de cobre ms pequeos. Tener un instrumento ahora asegurar el xito de su estudiante en la escuela secundaria y ms all! La prctica es necesaria para los estudiantes para crecer musicalmente.
