EMBROIDERY OF KARNATAKA

ORIGIN
The word Kasuti can be analyzed as KAI means hand and SUTI is cotton thread that is hand work of cotton thread.
Kasuti is a world famous embroidery of Karnataka. Kasuti speaks about the traditions custom and professions of Karnataka people.

HISTORY
No historical evidences in the form of records, literature or any other sources of information. Kasuti resembles the embroidery of Austria, Hungary and Spain. Chalukyas among the south Indian rulers played important part in the revival of art, culture and learning.
During the 17 century in Mysore women in court versed in sixty four arts and one of them was Kasuti.

- It is double running stitch. - It is worked in horizontal, vertical and diagonal direction.
MURGI
- is zigzag running stitch. - it should be of uniform size.

NEGI - it is nothing but ordinary running or darning stitch. - it does not appear identical on either side of the cloth. MENTHI - it is the ordinary cross stitch. - this requires more length of thread.
