Assembly A big well done to the Student Councillors for hosting the last assembly. There were some very realistic portrayals of characters! Next Friday's assembly will be hosted by Mrs Woods Year 1 class. The school looks forward to all family and friends attending. Student Behaviour During this term Ive been able to observe the very positive behaviour of students at Yakamia. Mutual Respect, Attentive Listening and Personal Responsibility are very obvious throughout the school. I continually see staff and students demonstrating these types of behaviours which all work to building a very positive culture at school. Well done to all! Parents as Partners Research has consistently shown that successful students are well supported by their parents as they take an active interest in their schooling. Having parents as partners goes a long way to making this active interest very positive for all concerned. It is important that the school and parents develop and maintain effective communication. When any issues or concerns are raised with you by your child, I strongly recommend that you initially organise a meeting with the class teacher or specialist teacher to discuss the issue or concern. This leads to clarification of the issue or possibly the development of an agreed plan of action. The Deputy Principals and I are happy to assist if the teacher is unavailable, communication should break down, or you are not sure who best to approach about the matter. School Uniform At Yakamia we believe a school uniform and dress code:

Fosters and enhances the public image of our school Assists in building school and team spirit Ensures students are safely dressed for specific school activities Encourages equity among students Prepares students for future work place dress requirements

We strongly encourage parents and students to support this policy everyday. Uniform: Bottoms Green shorts or pants Pleated tartan or green skirt (girls) Tops Red or white polo shirt with collar Red or green jumper Faction polo shirt with collar (Sport days only) Before School Reading Program The Before School Reading Program continues to run on Monday to Thursday mornings from 8.00am, in the Art Room. School News
Attendance A considerable number of students across Australia and at our school are having their opportunities to perform to their potential adversely affected by parent - condoned absences. The thought of an argument with children to get them to school often is too great to bear for some parents. After love and care the most important thing that we as parents can give our children is an education. Lets do it.

Should you require support in saying NO to your son/daughter on their attendance or any other Once it was the case that students only missed school when they were genuinely ill, but now that issue, please contact us immediately. We all can has changed. Students are being allowed to stay work together to make a difference to your students future. Lets support education and away from school for an ever increasing number make sure all students attend all the time, right of excuses including: until the end of term!! A day off for their birthday A day at the end of term A day because relatives are visiting A day off to be with parents at home A day off to look after younger brothers and sisters A day off to go shopping

Remember, Be on time, Be at school, Thats the rule!

Ideas for Tasty, Healthy Lunches - Fruit Keep fruit cold and store it in a container so it stays crisp and tasty Wash fresh fruit and pack it into a small container to avoid squashing it. Use grapes, plums, strawberries, apricots and cut-up oranges, apples, and pears drizzle lemon juice over apples to stop them turning brown. Add a small banana to the lunchbox. Mix dried fruit and place it into snaplock plastic bags. Use tinned fruit in portion packs, or place it in a small container. Use fruit when cooking muffins and cakes and add these to the lunchbox

Ideas for Tasty, Healthy Lunches Vegetables Keep vegies cold so they stay crisp and tasty Pack salads in a separate container. Small containers of vegetable sticks are a good snack try carrots, capsicum, celery or cucumber add cheese cubes for variety. Lettuce and grated carrot wont make sandwiches soggy if placed in the middle of the sandwich and other fillings (like cheese and ham) are placed next to the bread. Make mini-pizzas using English muffins or pita bread top them with tomato paste, capsicum, corn and cheese and place under the grill! Celery sticks can be filled with peanut butter or cream cheese.
