Bonus: When an object of mass m falls, with acceleration g , the velocity of fall continues to increase until it hits ground. But if there is an atmosphere, the object experiences a force called drag that resists gravity increasingly as the velocity of fall increases. When the speed is large enough the drag balances gravity so the speed stops increasing. This speed is known as the terminal velocity. Assume the drag force is proportional to the radius r of the object squared (i.e. think of it as a sphere) times the velocity of fall squared, with proportionality constant k . Solve the dierential equation that results from Newtons Second Law (F = ma) to nd v (t). Find the terminal velocity by taking the limit of v (t) as t approaches innity. The object does not need to be a sphere of course. Radius actually refers to the largest dimension of the object perpendicular to the ow. So the terminal velocity can be altered by changing its orientation. If a human has a maximum terminal velocity of about 200 km/h, and a doll (Barbie or Ken perhaps) is 1/6 the radius of a human, and the masses scale as the cube of this ratio, estimate the terminal velocity for Barbie or Ken.
