LESSON PLAN

Year: Date: Year 5 Monday 20th May 2013 Curriculum Area: Time Period: Mathematics Period 1 (60 Minutes)

Specific Lesson Learning Goals Students will be able to: Demonstrate how to use a protractor correctly Measure acute angels accurately using a protractor Measure obtuse angles accurately using a protractor Measure reflex angles accurately using a protractor

Students Prior Knowledge: Students are able to name different types of angles. Students have previously had a lesson in how to use a protractor correctly. Preparation: Measuring angles worksheet White board and white board markers

LESSON PLAN
Time: Start 60 Minutes Lesson Progression Gather the students at their desks and ask for quiet and attention Let the students know that we are going to be looking at angles Ask the students if they can tell me how to measure an angle Ask a volunteer to measure an angle drawn on the white board Ask all of the students to swap their Mathematics books with the person the person on their right Ask the students to draw three angles in the Mathematics book they now have one acute, one obtuse and one reflex angle Ask the students to return the Mathematics books so they now have their own book once again Explain to the students that they need to measure each of the angles in their Mathematics books Have the students work on the angles in their books Ask the students to repeat the process by switching books with the person on their left this time Have the students work on the angles in their books Explain to the students that they are going to be completing a worksheet on measuring angles similar to what they have been doing in their Mathematics books Ask the students if they have any questions about the task Have a volunteer hand out the worksheets Walk around the classroom speaking with the students about their angles and making corrections or advising where necessary Ask a volunteer to collect the completed worksheets Ask the students to look around the room and see if there are any angles in the room they would like to measure Have the students measure some angles they see in the room Congratulate the students on a great lesson and prepare them for the start of the next lesson Informal Assessment of Student Outcomes

LESSON PLAN
What will you assess? Demonstrate how to use a protractor correctly Measure acute angels accurately using a protractor Measure obtuse angles accurately using a protractor Measure reflex angles accurately using a protractor How will you assess? What evidence will you collect? Ask the students to demonstrate how to articulate and use a protractor correctly. Collect the worksheets showing the students ability to measure the given angles.
