Design Approval and Trademark Guidelines for Student Organizations


If your organization plans to sell items such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, buttons or bumper stickers, you must use the following process prior to getting these items printed: 1. Complete and submit an Application to Raise Funds and a Design Approval Form to Center for Student Involvement. 2. If yur organization is a sport club, professional school organization or ASUCD unit, you must have the Application to Raise Funds and Design Approval Form signed by your designated departmental representative. How to Get Design Approval: 1. Prepare a rough sketch of your design with exact text to be used. 2. Your student organization name MUST be identified on the items you sell. Remember that a student organization may not use the University name as part of its name, except to describe its location (e.g., Social Club at UC Davis). 3. The names or logos of any sponsors must be incidental in prominence to the name of your organization and the design or message of the item being produced. 4. The design must be related to the purpose of your organization. 5. If you wish to use any form of the UC Davis name or logo, you must comply with the following Trademark Guidelines. Trademark Guidelines: All variances of names and visual representations of the University of California, Davis, are considered UC Davis trademarks. The marks include any trademark, service mark, name, logo, insignia, seal, design, or other symbol or device associated with or referring to UC Davis. Also included are any word, phrase, or image that implies association with the University. The University owns these trademarks and must approve their use. The following guidelines regulate use of trademarks by student organizations: 1. Student organizations are: NOT permitted to use the University seal or Cal Aggie logo. Permitted to only use the UC Davis logo, Go Ags! logo, or athletic logos in their designs.

2. Reproduction of the permitted trademarks on clothing and other items must be approved by CSI and the UC Davis Trademark Coordinator. 3. For assistance in preparation of your design, you may use the Web versions of these logos available at http://trademarks.ucdavis.edu/images/UCD-logo_styleguide.pdf. Vendors licensed to sell UC Davis trademarks have production-quality versions for use. 4. You must use the services of a vendor licensed to produce UC Davis emblematic merchadise. Licensed vendors in Davis are UC Davis Bookstore, Davis Sports Shop, Executive One, Graphic Promotions, Ink Monkey Wearable Graphics, Screaming Squeegie,Hunter Ad Specialties, and Totally Merch. For a complete list of vendors, see http://trademarks.ucdavis.edu/vendors.html. 5. The vendor is required to assess a 7.5% royalty fee for use of UC Davis trademarks on items sold.
