From the first meeting, I have learned and understood from lecturers explanations about concept of Discourse analysis. Based from what Ive got from lecturers explanation, Discourse analysis is about the language we used and how we use the language. Discourse analysis is related with the way we express something by saying a word or sentence and has an implicit meaning besides the real meaning. Historically, discourse analysis is come from a single word, which has many meaning besides its real meaning. From a single word we can interpretates many things just from it. Simply, Discourse analysis exists as long as we use the language in our social interaction with other people. If we interact with another living things beside human we cant use the language and discourse analysis is impossible to occur. The concept of discourse analysis has a tight bond with the way human use the language and has an implicit meaning besides its real meaning. Sometimes it deviates from grammatical rules in language use, but it cant be categorized into language error with exception as long as the recipient understands what speakers says and be able to respond it. There are some aspects which influence the language use in discourse analysiss perspective; like intonations, situations, gestures, body language and movement, and also the faces expressions/mimics. A: Sampeyan ikan atau ayam? B: Saya ayam saja, bu From example above, if we just focus with the literal meaning, we can find something wrong with the conversation. It seems like the A person asking to B whether he/she is a fish or chicken. But if we take a deep look into the meanings based with sentences context we can conclude that the conversation takes place in a canteen. The A person is a food seller or waitress who ask to B person

about the menu he/she is going to eat. The B person give responds if he prefers chicken than fish as his meal. Another information we can get from example above is the food seller is a woman, based from the customers respond Bu which indicates the food sellers gender.

Ngebut, Bacok! The phrase above is another example of discourse. If we focus in its literal meaning and grammatical rules theres something wrong with the phrase. But, if we focus in languages context and the situations, we can conclude that the phrase is a Warning to the vehicle user not to ride their vehicle in high speed. That warning sign is usually in a small alley, which many people around, especially kids. There are some reasons why they create that sign, like an accident have occurred before, or the noise cause from high-speed vehicle which disturb the citizen whom lived there. Alex: How do you feel now? Stephan: Great Sentence above is about discourse. One single word Great has many interpretations in this example. Literally, we use word Great to express good feeling in positive context. But the word meaning can changed by the expressions and intonations the recipient used to respond the question. If Stephan responds Alexs question with pale face and powerless intonation when saying Great, we can assume that Alex states Great contrast with literal meaning. We can conclude that Stephans feeling is sad, powerless now. Maybe he just had an accident or got bad news thar day.

She is only servant. Sentence above is also a discourse. The word only in sentence above indicates power, which mean that the woman is just his servant. The sentence is a rough statement which show if the servant is a low-degree job.

I think thats all what Ive got from lecturers explanations in first meeting. I impressed with this study and excited to learn more in this subject.
