Government/Economics Syllabus Class Objective: The Government and Economics course is to ensure that students will be able to fully function as an informed citizen and be able to formulate their own opinions using the knowledge they have gained from this course. Responsibilities: Students in Government/Economics class must attend class regularly, read assignments before arriving in class, participate in class discussions, look at the Class Jump site daily, respect others in class and pass examinations. PROHIBITED IN CLASS: 1. Any kind of cell phone, computer, tablet, MP3 player use. At times I may allow you to use your MP3 player during individual class work but if there are several students in the class that abuse this by taking it out at an unauthorized time or they are misusing the device (texting, FB, tweeting, IG, pinning, etc.) I will take away the privilege to listen to music in class for everyone in the class. 2. Disrespecting the teacher and/or peers. 3. Being disruptive in class. If I have to ask more than once for you to stop disrupting the class, you will be sent to exclusion. If you performing one of the prohibited tasks mentioned in number 1, there will be no warning and you will be sent straight to exclusion and your device will be turned into the office. Grades: Each nine week grading period, the grades will be weighed the following way: Project: There will be one project given each nine week period. The project will count as 10 grades and will be based on the Units in the book we have covered for that grading period. I will give you instructions and ample time to complete these projects. Classwork: Classwork will be worth between 1-2 grades per assignment. Homework: Every night a student will have homework in Government/Economics. The homework will be to read the sections that will be covered the following class. This is part of being prepared for class and it is expected of every student. Additional homework may include Key Terms and questions/activities that will enrich a students knowledge of a chapter to prepare them for a chapter test. Homework is always due the day of an exam unless otherwise noted. Also, weekly current events will be given for each of the classes. They

are worth 2 grades and it is required they are HAND WRITTEN in the following format: Paragraph 1: The student gives a brief summary of the article. Paragraph 2: The student gives their own analysis/opinion of issue presented in the article. Tests: Students will be given a unit test after the unit is complete. Each test will be worth four (4) grades. Make-up Assignments: All students will be responsible for obtaining their homework and classwork assignments from the teacher and/or another student in the class. A student can email me the day they are absent and I will gladly give them the assignment. My email is LReyeros@dadeschools.net. From the day that Government or Economics class is missed, the student is given three (3) days to make up an assignment. Being that there is block scheduling, that means the student needs to come back to school and has one class to get the assignment and the next day (even though I do not see them) they need to turn it into me. A student can turn in work by sliding it under the door in the morning before school. Do not slide work under the door after school hours since the janitor will see it on the floor and throw it away. Repercussions for not following the advice on this syllabus: As a student, it is your responsibility to make sure you have all homework, classwork, projects and tests studied for and complete before entering my classroom and on the date that it is due. If these guidelines are not followed, you risk failure of the class and will have to take the class over again before you can graduate from High School! REMINDER: Government is worth 0.5 credits and Economics is 0.5 credits. EACH of the classes MUST BE PASSED in order to pass the year and graduate. Please do your best to not fall behind. Anytime a student needs to ask a question about an assignment or has a concern, please email me. LReyeros@dadeschools.net
