RA-1200 Rail Pressure Diagnosor

1. Preface 1.1 Function

RA-1200 Rail Pressure Diagnoser is designed to test Bosch rail pressure sensors for common rail diesel engines. RA-1200 can be used to monitor engine rail pressure and diagnose common rail diesel engine faults with no interference to engine ECU during engine running by the site of a fault vehicle. RA-1200 can test also rail pressure for a common rail fuel system on a fuel pump test bench independently. RA-1200 is able to diagnose the ECU DC +5V power supply for the sensor. RA-1200 is able to diagnose common rail diesel engine faults on site of faulty vehicles. During engine start, RA-1200 monitors rail pressure sensor signal in real time and indicates the DC+5V from ECU is normal, under-voltage or over-voltage. With the help of RA-1200, the operator may determine whether the adequate rail pressure could be built, and whether the rail pressure sensor and related ECU circuit are in normal working conditions. The device can be used also to monitor rail pressure for a common rail system being tested on a high pressure fuel pump test bench. It is able to test whether the rail pressure sensor is on working condition.

1.2 Handling
z z z z Do not throw, drop or step on the device or accessories, and do not allow the device subject to any heavy impact Do not place heavy objects on the device Do not insert foreign objects into the connection sockets of the device Do not allow water or other liquid to flow into the device or accessories Remove the battery to avoid the outflow of electrolyte damaging the circuit board if not using the device for a long time

2. 6. Diagnose Rail Pressure Related Circuit on Engine ECU

The engine ECU provides the 5VDC power supply for a rail pressure sensor. Some rail pressure sensor related ECU faults are caused by the ECU 5VDC power supply. The RA-1200 Diagnoser is able to test the 5VDC power for rail pressure sensor from ECU and show the test result on the LCD screen. The +5VDC measurement is represented by three symbols, which are displayed below the indicator +5V on the left side of the LCD screen. The symbol indicates normal voltage; the symbol indicates over-voltage

and the symbol indicates under-voltage or no ECU +5VDC power supply. The measured rail pressure by RA-1200 may be compared with the pressure reading of an engine ECU decoder. If both values agree to each other, then the ECU the ECU pressure signal receiving circuit should be in normal condition.

3. Operation 3. 1. Test Rail Pressure of Common Rail Diesel Engine

z z z z z z z z z z z z Unplug rail pressure sensor from engine harnesses Plug the Port 2 of the device cable to the rail pressure sensor connector of the engine harnesses Plug the Port 3 of the device cable to the rail pressure sensor Connect the Port 1 of the device cable to the tester Turn-on POWER switch to start the RA-1200 Diagnoser Check the ECU +5VDC power supply, indicated by the screen symbols , normal voltage , over-voltage

under-voltage Press MODE key to select the corresponding scale to match the target rail pressure sensor. When engine ECU power is on but engine is not running, the RA-1200 can test whether the rail pressure sensor is failed. The rail pressure sensor is good if the pressure reading is close to ZERO Start the engine to test whether the reading of rail pressure sensor is correct
