Design considerations Its important that a system designed to offer a specific type of protection also functions as a working part of the building faade in all other relevant aspects. In addition, our systems work in harmony with a range of specialist glazing products. Light transmission, thermal insulation, ventilation, ease of access and use must all be accommodated, so our Protection Systems include opening windows and doors, allow for large glazed panes and are thermally broken and can be used in conjunction with double and triple glazed sealed units. A full range of hardware provides both the protection features and the expected necessary levels of functionality. Inward and outward opening doors and windows, sliding doors and windows, automated doors, youll find all of these within our Protection Systems. It is this design expertise that has seen our systems

BLAST RESISTANT

The volatile worldwide political climate means that protecting building occupants and contents from the effect of blast is required with increasing frequency. And since fenestration and curtain walls are at the exterior, they are the first line of defence for the protection of employees and the public.

Blast resistant glazed products Powerframe is Sapa Building Systems range of windows, doors and curtain walling which provides protection in the event of blast incidents. When an explosion incident occurs, most of the fatalities and injuries are due to projected debris and glass shards. The ability to absorb the blast energy, without causing failure of the element or the structure, is the most important feature of a blast mitigation construction element. Designed specifically for this purpose the system derives the maximum benefit from the membrane action of laminated glass and its ability to safely transmit complex loads to the perimeter fixing through the frames. The Sapa Building System Powerframe range has been tested according to latest ISO 16933 international standards with equivalent charges of 100kg TNT suitable to many different applications for: Defence and military buildings Chemical plants Oil and gas plants Government buildings and embassies Police Private Laboratories and Industrial Facilities

design requirements. ISO16933 ISO16933: 2007 Glass in building -- Explosionresistant security glazing -- Test and classification for arena air-blast loading. The standard tests the effect of explosive devices at different distance from the target. Most building elements are tested against a car bomb of 100kg TNT equivalent at distances ranging from 45 to 10m. The effect of other blast loads can often be determined by calculation and extrapolation of the test results. The ISO 16933 standard contains classifications of protection and hazard that can be equated with those of other standards such as GSA-TS01:2003, ASTM F1624 and UFC 04.010.01 Blast hazards The aim is to protect the occupants from the effects of blast explosion against: Primary Fragments: flying glass, building components Secondary Fragments: shrapnel, rocks, debris, etc. Structural Collapse/Damage

Tested according to EN1522 and EN1523 Bullet resistant curtain walls, windows and doors are classified in security classes from FB1 to FB7 in accordance with the European standard EN1522 and EN1523. The standard applies to attack by means of pistols, revolvers, guns, rifles and carbine, on the system as a whole (glazing materials in conjunction with frames). For its bulletproof classification, the standard defines weapons, calibres and also the manner in which tests have to be carried out. Shatterproof Additional information is given regarding whether during testing, material on the inside side splinters off (S = splinters NS = shatterproof). Glass incorporated into the systems must be tested and validated in accordance with the corresponding security glazing standard EN1063. Also tested and approved for angled shots Tests of Sapa Building system bullet resistant products in accredited test laboratories included both direct bullet impact (90) and angled shots in accordance with the test method in EN1523. The successful tests with angled shots are particularly important because of the weak points at the different interfaces between profile and glass.
