Article I:
Name: Future Educators

Article II:
Purpose: The purpose of Future Educators shall be to develop, educate and prepare students for a career in education by exposing them to the aspects of education that are not addressed in college courses.

Article III:
Broad Objectives: To promote interest in young adults who are interested in education careers. To provide members with opportunities for developing personal growth and professional competence. To provide opportunities for gaining an understanding of the history, ethics, and programs of the education profession. To provide opportunities for participating in cooperative work on the problems of the profession and the community. To provide professional membership on the local, state, and national levels during the preparation period for a career in education. To strive for higher standards of preparation as future educators; to make our members as well-rounded as possible so that they may be able to take-on all sorts of challenges while in the field. To promote and protect human civil rights and to simulate the highest ideals of professional ethics, standards, and attitudes.

Article IV:
Executive Council: The Executive Council will be comprised of at least 4 officers: president, secretary, treasurer, and at-large members.

Section 1: Eligibility of Executive Council


A. Only full-time, officially registered undergraduate students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher who are in good standing with Elon University will be eligible to serve as elected or appointed officers.

Section 2: Duties of Executive Council President


i. ii. Will preside at all meetings. Will communicate with the state and national liaison as necessary.

Will serve as a link between the community and the organization. Will enforce Constitution and Bylaws. Will call special meetings with 48 hrs advance notice. Will ensure that state dues are sent to the state liaison . Will be a liaison between the organization, the university, and Elons Department of Education. Will fulfill any other duties associated with the representation of the organization that may not be listed here. Will plan the agenda for meetings.

Secretary i. Will keep permanent record of all minutes, including a record of attendance. ii. Will keep an accurate and complete alphabetical roster of all members able to vote. iii. Will fulfill the presidential duties when the president is unable. iv. iv. Will be responsible for public relations and advertising any events (meetings, special events). Treasurer i. Will keep an accurate record of all financial transactions of the organization. ii. Will deposit and withdraw funds as needed. iii. Will collect university (local) dues and make deposits to account. iv. Will collect state dues and forward said monies to the President. v. Will report status of financial considerations at each executive board meeting. vi. Will execute the appropriate process in order to request and obtain funds from SGA and the Department of Education: 1. The procedure for SGA may be found in the SGA Treasurers Handbook. 2. To obtain funds from the education department, a formal proposal must be made to the chair of the department. Any allocation of funds by the Department of Education must be reported to the SGA Executive Treasurer and may reduce SGA allocation to SNCAE. Member at Large i. ii. Will work in conjunction with all other members of the Executive Board to ensure the needs of the organization are met. ii. iii. At-Large Members will each represent an education content focus.

Section 3:
In Case of Absence: In case of long-term (ex. semester abroad) absence of any executive board member, the atlarge member would take their place and responsibilities, and the president will appoint a new at-large member with input from the executive board. 1. In case of the President being absent, the Vice-President would assume the responsibilities of the President, and the At-Large member would take the role of Vice President. The new President would appoint an at-large member with input from the executive board.

Section 4: Executive Officer Attendance


A. Executive officers are required to attend all meetings. B. Absences will be approved by the president on a case-by-case basis (includes academic commitments, illness, family emergency, etc.). C.

Section 5: Removal of officers


A. Any officer can be removed for failing to fulfill the duties outlined in these by-laws of his/her office, or by having a GPA below 2.5. B. Any officers can be removed by a two-thirds majority with a quorum, as defined in Article VII, of current members present at the meeting. Vote will be by secret ballot with votes counted by the president and the advisor. If the president is being removed, the advisor will count the votes. C. Any officer will be notified in writing of the charges against him/her prior to the meeting in which the vote for dismissal will occur. This person will also have the opportunity to defend him/herself before the executive board and faculty advisor of the organization. The president will notify the accused officer. D. If the officer is removed, the Member-At-Large will replace the officer removed. E. The executive board will appoint a replacement Member-At-Large officer to fill the remainder of the term should D occur.

Section 6: Election of officers


A. Nominations may come from the floor during the regular monthly meeting in November. Nomination process at Novembers regular monthly meeting. This date will be set by the current executive board at the first executive board meeting of the year. B. Upon nomination to office, each person running for office will be given time to speak prior to the vote. C. The voting will take place at a special meeting, which will be held in November after the vote. Advisor will count the votes and announce the results during the same meeting as the election. D. A plurality of votes with a quorum present is required to place an individual in an office. E. Newly elected officers shall shadow the current officers during the month of December. F. Newly elected officers shall take office in February and the terms of office shall be one calendar year.

Article V: Membership Requirements


A. You must be an undergraduate student who has an interest in pursuing a career in education and must be in good standing with Elon University to be a part of this organization. B. Attendance at every meeting is strongly encouraged. If the member cannot attend, advanced notice of absence via email to the president is expected. To remain in good standing, members should attend at least 50 % of meetings each semester and at least 50% of enrichment activities each semester (or approved absenses in place of such). C. Members must remain current paying their membership dues. Membership dues must be paid by the second monthly meeting of the academic year. D. State and national dues are set each year by NCAE; local SNCAE dues for the following school year will be set at the last executive board meeting of the school year and are not to exceed 50% of state/national dues.

Article VII: Elections/Voting:


Section 1: Voting Members
A. All members in good standing (dues are current, member has appropriate attendance, and is in good standing with the University). B. Each member will have one vote on issues put forth for a vote. C. Members elected or appointed to an office retain voting rights. D. A quorum will be defined as 50% of the membership plus one. A member is defined by one who has paid his or her fees.

Section 2: Removal of Members


A. A member is eligible for removal if he/she is not in good standing with the university, or he/she is not in good standing with the chapter in terms of attendance. B. Any member can be removed by a two-thirds majority of eligible voting members. C. This member will be notified in writing of the charges against him/her by the president prior to the meeting in which the vote for dismissal will occur. This person will also have the opportunity to represent him/herself before the President and faculty advisor.

Article VIII: Committees:


A. The executive council has the authority to create committees for any special project as needed. Any member of the executive board has the authority to propose a committee, but the president has the authority to approve or deny the creation of the committee.

Article IX: Role for the Faculty-Staff Advisor(s):


A. Must be a full time faculty or staff personnel. B. To meet with the executive board at least two times each semester. C. Attend meetings when possible.

D. Oversee communication with the state liaison. E. Advise executive council in administrative duties of the organization.

Article X: Standardized Meeting Time:


A. The group will meet as a whole at least once monthly, with dates and times set at the first executive board meeting of the school year. B. Members will be notified of any special meetings no later than one week before the meeting.

Article XI: Finances:


A. All monies go to the Elon SNCAE account. B. Member dues will be decided annually and collected by the treasurer. All dues collected will be placed in the organizations oncampus account. C. Fundraising may be organized by the Executive Council, but must be approved by the Student Development Office. All raised funds will be deposited into the organizations on-campus account.

Article XII: Amendments:


A. Amendments may be proposed to the executive committee by any voting member. A majority of the active membership must vote in favor of this proposal. B. At any time, the Bylaws of this SNCAE chapter may be amended by a majority vote of the general membership. C. The officers of the Executive Committee are responsible for notifying all members of an upcoming amendment vote at least two weeks before voting is scheduled to take place.

XIII: Authority/Supremacy:
A. The meetings shall be run and elections held in accordance with parliamentary procedure as set forth under Roberts Rules of Order.

B. All members should abide by the Elon Honor Code in addition to all professional regulations set up by the Alamance-Burlington School System at all SNCAE meetings and events.
