Abstract: Call admission control (CAC) plays a very important role in assuring the quality of service (QoS) of wireless cellular
system, especially in an interference-limited CDMA system. For a CDMA system which adopts a CAC scheme based on Signal to
Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) , it admit a call as long as the measured SINR is higher than the predefined threshold value
( SINRth ). If a high value of SINRth is chosen, the signal quality will improve but this will increase the blocking probability ( Pb ) which
decreases the network utilization. On the contrary, the adoption of a low-valued SINRth will reduce Pb and increase the network
utilization, however it will degrade the signal quality and increase outage probability ( Pout ). Hence, how to choose an appropriate
SINRth is very important. In this paper, we design a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) which can adaptively adjust SINRth to realize the
tradeoff between the signal quality and network utilization according to the number of active users (AUs) in a cell and average arrival
traffic intensity (AATI) in Erlang per cell. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme based on FLC has better performance than
the optimal xed threshold CAC scheme.
