The parable in todays Gospel calls us to reflect on
our relationship with each other and the goods of
this world. Do we use the goods of this world to help and serve
others or do we use others to serve ourselves? In what ways do you
need to listen to and be convinced of Jesus message to prepare for
the Kingdom?

Aron |I Dtocc)
I once heard a wonderful definition of a Vocation
it is when the hearts greatest desire meets the
worlds greatest need. Each of us is called to a voca-
tion. Some of us may be called to marriage and
parenthood, some to the single life, and some to the
religious life. Within each of those three broad vo-
cational areas there are more specific choices that
need to be made in order to live out the fullness of our particular voca-
tion. If we have prayerfully discerned and confirmed our vocation with
people around us, we can be sure our vocation will be one which we will
be passionate about and energized in living out.
Enjoying ones vocation does not mean that there will never be any
struggles or difficulties along the way. Being committed to any vocation
requires self-sacrifice if one is to be faithful to the commitment.
However, if we have prayerfully discerned our vocation, we can be sure
that God will give us the grace to enjoy what we have been called to do
while also enabling us to persevere in times of difficulty. Whatever our
vocation, maintaining an active prayer life and being an active part of a
faith community is essential to living out our vocational calling in the way
God desires us to live.

In terms of religious vocations, each of us is called to encourage those
people around us that we believe would make a good priest, brother, or
sister. Sometimes the encouragement someone gives another person to
consider a religious vocation is exactly what that person may need in
order to be affirmed in their discernment process.

I am always happy to talk about the Paulists or vocational discernment.
Check out the vocation discernment resources on the UCC web page at
utcatholic.org/vocations. Also consider talking with out Paulist Vocation
director, Fr. Larry Rice, CSP, while he is visiting with us for the next few
days.
