Pastor Adolfo Armenta worships with his congregation at Tabernculo Bautista in Garden City, Kan. The church is the former Primera Iglesia Bautista. A fire on Sunday, March 24, destroyed its building at 309 W. Campbell in Garden City. The church relocated to a modular facility on the east side of the city at 3111 E. Spruce St. and plans to construct a new building on the property. Armenta has pastored the congregation for 12 years.

After a fire on Sunday afternoon, March 24 (Palm Sunday), destroyed its building, Primera Iglesia Bautista in Garden City, Kan., is now meeting in this facility at 3111 E. Spruce St. in Garden City. Although, the church mourned the loss of its 40-year-old building at 309 W. Campbell, the congregation is using the fire as an opportunity to reinvent itself. First, the church is in the process of officially changing its name to Tabernculo Bautista with the vision statement of Lugar Donde Mora La Presencia De Dios (A Place Where the Presence of God Dwells). Second, the church wants to construct a new building on the property when details can be finalized.

For maximum benefit, take the StrengthsFinder profile online and bring the results to the Pastors Conference.

Escuela Biblica de Vacaciones (Vacation Bible School) is a popular outreach for KNCSB Hispanic churches. Iglesia Bautista del Sur in Garden City, Kan., held its EBV July 15-20 in its new building at 1107 W. Olive. The event attracted an average of 150 children each night. Rosie Fuentes and David Fernandez (center) were the EBV co-directors. Christian Vila (right) and Christian Acevedo, summer missionaries from Puerto Rico, assisted. Iglesia Bautista del Sur is the new Hispanic congregation in Garden City. The church held its first service in its new building the dedication service on Sunday afternoon, March 31 (Easter), 2013.

Walking With the Master

By Georges Boujakly
KNCSB State Director of Missions E-mail: gboujakly@kncsb.org

We are on the doorstep of our state convention meeting. New Covenant Baptist Church is the site of this years annual meeting on October 14th -15th. Dr. Alan Branch from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary will be a Bible Study leader and Dr. Jason Allen, President of the seminary will be our keynote speaker. I am looking forward to seeing you there. I have heard some presenters refer to the Great Commission descriptors, (Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth) as geographic locations and/or as people group identifiers. For example, a geographic identifier for Judea would be my state or region. A people group identifier for Judea would be people who are similar to me but may not be in my immediate proximity. This could be viewed as something similar to our two state convention.

Judea represents one part of the Great Commissions directives. Judea is not be seen as more important than Jerusalem, Samaria or the ends of the earth. Judea for us represents approximately 170,000 square miles and five million people living on the Great Plains. The North American Mission Board indicates that more than 3.3 million of the five are without any kind of a meaningful relationship with Christ. The missional task before us is formidable. Our Judea is filled with needs and the Father is at work throughout our region. With eyes of faith our only response to Him is obedience. I want to leave you with a challenge. One of our national mission partners has redirected $147,000 of our joint budget. Please do not hear me say they have eliminated those dollars; they have redirected those dollars to church planting. Unfortunately, previously by agreement with the agency, we were using those dollars for

town and country (rural) strategy, for associational assistance and for church health. At this point, if we are to continue these ministries we must come up with our own resources. I think these ministries are critical to our overall mission strategy. I would like to challenge you and your church to consider increasing your gifts to Bob Mills the Cooperative Program by a half of percent or to a whole percent. By doing so we could easily care for this shortfall. I do appreciate your prayerful consideration in this matter.

Why Sit, O Christ? Colossians 3:1 says: Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God the Father. Before us today is the task of understanding the sitting Christ in order to learn and worship Christ more fully. We understand sitting as a leisurely activity to rest our tired bodies, or to watch television, or to do nothing. Biblically, however, sitting is a theological term that is charged to carry deep meaning. It is associated with the notion of rest, of community. After God finished the task of creating the world, for example, we find him resting the rest of admiring the creation and ruling over it. The blessed man does not sit in the seat of scoffers. He does not keep the company of scoffers and adopt their ways. The Scribes and teachers of the law sit in a posture of unbelief, and defiance despite the glaring Georges Boujakly evidence of the power and authority of the Son of Man to forgive sins, which they knew that God alone could do (Mark 2:6). Jesus (The One who ascended in his resurrected body) sits to rule with the Father having ended the enmity that existed between God and Man. He sits not from tiredness but to rest the rest of King happy to rule. Those who belong to him need no longer worry about the awful ultimate penalty of sin. He sits; he inaugurates the new phase of his work in the newly reestablished kingdom of God on earth as in heaven. With reconciliation and forgiveness under his belt, he sits in triumph over death. He sits as ruler of the universe. Hebrews author says: When he had made purification [by the shedding of his blood] for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high (1:3, NRSV). But is there more to this sitting of Christ? Look full in his wonderful face to discover that he neither slumbers nor sleeps. He sits to pray. He sits as the High Priest of God sits in order to make intercession for the sheep of his pasture. He entered the Holy of Holies, he took his rightful place to complete the healing of the nations. Let our prayers mingle with his. Paul urges: set your hearts on things above where

Christ is seated. Speaking to the church as a group (the whole passage is plural) Paul asks them to seek the seated Christ, to look for him, to gaze at him. Seek him with all your heart and you will find him. He is the ever-ready Priest. Like the priest Eli, he, our High Priest, awaits the broken Hannahs and the disillusioned Jobs of this world to assure them that their vows and prayers are being heard. But unlike Eli he judges not the troubled souls who seek him earnestly. This regally exalted and seated Christ is alone worthy of our absolute admiration. To come before him with a mere glance is to insult his Majesty. To come with halfhearted devotion is to pay lip service to a King who rules over all kings. To pass by without our pleading prayers and bowing of knees is to neglect the Maker of heaven and earth. This seated Christ is capable of more than we can ask or think to ask. Ask for little, he grants much. Humble yourself, he honors and lifts you up. Come to the Seated One, he will fill your cup with goodness and mercy to overflow capacity. Ask, seek, and knock. Hell translate to his Father and Our Father the moaning of earth to fill the heavens with celestial harmony. His answer will be in heavenly currency, cashable in every country, for every need. Because he sits where he sits no one can condemn us. It is Christ Jesus, who dies, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us (Romans 8:34 NRSV). Ask the easy ask. Ask the impossible ask. Ask left and right, ask without shame. Like this: With so much left to do, why sit, O Christ? Life is filled with guns and war Children die by disease and abuse
The Baptist Digest

Why allow more? Why sit, O Christ? Chemicals burn their innocence, Sear their psyche. Why sit, O Christ? Men speak ill of you, Maiming, killing, and scarring Some do in your name Why sit, O Christ? In rooms plush with greed and deceit The rich and powerful Devise schemes To dethrone the king of glory. Why sit, O Christ? I sit, O man, I sit not the seating of leisure I sit with-an-ever-watchful-gaze. With my blood I purified I sit with Majesty on High. I sit, Son of Man, enthroned I sit forgiveness to bestow I sit to rule, to sway, To advocate, to plead, to whisper, to pray. Join me in learning Jesus. Let not my flight be solo before the throne room of Majesty. Pray with the Son of God who loved us and gave himself for us. No longer alone in prayer. Our partner God sits in readiness to intercede. To know him, to love him, to learn him, lift your burdens to the heaven where our brother, our lover, the author of life, sits enthroned for ever interceding for his beloved.

Gods Plan for Sharing

Sharing & Strengthening

harvest. The combine was started and we made sure it was ready to cut. And then it happened, the first test cut was made to see if the wheat was dry enough to place in the grain bin. All of this was preparing for harvest. Jesus wanted the disciples, and all of us for that matter, to discover the work of the harvest. In John 4 he brought His harvest into clear view for the disciples. Jesus clarifies with the following sentence, Dont you say, There are still four more months, then comes the harvest? Listen to what Im telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. John 4:32. He wanted to capture the disciples attention as he pointed to the members of the village walking out to see him at the local well. He was excited about the harvest. It was time to work and he was inviting the disciples to join Him. As we all think about sharing our faith, the focus upon the upcoming harvest should encourage us. Jesus had just completed an important conversation with a woman getting water at the well. He informed the disciples, The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together. John 4:36 (HCSB) Receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life is what Jesus wanted the disciples to catch as the crowd was walking toward the well. This event reminded me of the excitement of the wheat harvest in western Jon Sapp Kansas. Jesus invited the disciples to join Him and take part in the excitement and reward of the season as they participated with him working the harvest among the locals from the village. I have mentioned before, the four mile-markers of evangelism. These four Prayer, Equipping, Sowing and Harvest summarize elements of our making Christ known. I havent talked enough of the Harvest. It was important for Jesus as He taught the disciples about working with those coming from the village. I want to catch the same vision and excitement for this important aspect of evangelism. One of the methods we use for harvest celebration in the church is baptism. The meaning, method and mode of baptism have been discussed in other areas. I want to remind us to make baptism an important feature of the celebration of our faith. Churches can make this act of obedience and identification a celebration. This summer I learned of several churches turning their baptism into a community event at a park or lake. I have seen videos of kids playing with friends and gathered around tables enjoying the pot luck meal. Making a big deal out of this event reminds me of what Jesus was trying to teach the disciples. As you are looking out on the fields of your harvest, what plans are you making for the celebration of new life and the beginning of a young disciples life long walk of obedience? I would hope our baptism events have a celebratory tone in the event. In doing this, I believe we are all living out one of the important aspects of Gods Plan for Sharing.

KNCSB State Director of Evangelism E-mail: jsapp@kncsb.org

Without fail, our celebration was the same year after year. The excitement around the table, the dust in the air and the long hours of work all resulted in smiles and planning for this years event. I am talking about the end of wheat harvest and the resulting celebration I enjoyed growing up in western Kansas. One of the benefits of living on the farm was getting in on the harvest and all that goes with it. While we didnt talk about all the work it took to get ready for harvest, it captivated much of our year. Before the harvest came in, someone had to invest hours, days and weeks of work. The summer fallow was prepared for planting. The drill was cleaned and the seed wheat was purchased. We spent hours sowing the wheat, and then we waited. We prayed for rain and watched how the crop was coming along month after month. Then in early summer, the wheat was up and the golden waves of grain were a reality out in the field. I will guarantee you, my father was watching for the

Vision Tour Launches Send Kansas City

By Eva Wilson
Baptist Digest Associate Editor

KNCSB on mission

As the hot late August sun beat down, Matt Miller, lead teaching pastor, stood in front of New City Church and said, We have a lot of people who are beginning their spiritual journey in this place. New City Church meets in a former movie theater in the shopping center on the northwest corner of 75th Street and Nieman Road in Shawnee, Kan. God put us here. I really believe that, Miller told participants in the first Catch the Vision tour for Send Kansas City. Send Kansas City is part of the North American Mission Boards Send North America strategy to start new churches in major cities in the United States and Canada. Kansas City was recently named a Send City. About 15 people gathered for the first Catch the Vision tour of the Kansas City area Aug. 27-28. The group included staff members from KNCSB, the Missouri Baptist Convention and the three Baptist associations in the Kansas City area. Church staff members from the Kansas City area also participated. Other participants came from as far away as West Plains,

Mo., and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Tour participants got a whirlwind tour of places in the Kansas City metropolitan area that need new Southern Baptist churches. The goal of Send Kansas City is to create partnerships to help start new churches. There also is a great opportunity to partner in revitalizing existing churches. Matt Marrs is coordinator for Send Kansas City. He is director of missions for Clay-Platte Baptist Association in the Northland of Kansas City, Mo. Lenexa Baptist Church, Lenexa, Kan., is the Key Partner Church for Send Kansas City. The church provided a bus and drivers for the vision tour. Several church staff members participated in the tour. Senior Pastor Steve Dighton joined the group for dinner Tuesday night, Aug. 27. Tour stops on the Kansas side of the state line included the areas of Bonner Springs and Basehor surrounding the Kansas Speedway, where development has exploded. The group also went into inner-city Kansas City, Kan., and saw The Mission House. Several churches, including Westside Family Church in Lenexa, have partnered to share the gospel and revitalize the neighborhood there.

We have a lot of people who are beginning their spiritual journey in this place. That is what Matt Miller, lead teaching pastor of New City Church, Shawnee, Kan., told participants in the Catch the Vision tour Aug. 27-28. The tour was part of the Send Kansas City emphasis sponsored by the North American Mission Board. The Mission House offers both summer and semester internships for young people. And a Hispanic church meets there on Saturday nights. At New City Church in Shawnee, Kan., tour participants saw how the church serves a lower-income area of the community. New City Church launched in January 2012. It averages more than 400 people in two Sunday morning worship services. Oh to be loved by Jesus! He knows the names of my sorrows, He knows the names of my fears. Some of the sorrows named and or confessed this year at the Wonderful Weekend for Women were loss of loved one, cancer, viewing pornography, divorce, messed up marriages, children viewing porn, waiting on the adoption process, husband not a believer, feeling God is silent, and so on. The fears of some attending were also named and or confessed; dying, loosing hair from medical treatments, getting caught or confessing porn addiction, temptation of having an affair, failure of the adoption process, husband seeing someone else, not being enough for husband, God cannot love meHe doesnt know my past, and so on. Was it a heavy weekend? Yes! Why should I let them bother me, for I know He is near. Was it a wonderful weekend? Oh yes! You see, joys were also named: being right where God wants me, God healed, broken marriage restored, the gift of being invisible, testimonies from young women being called out to missions, pregnant with first child, son home from Afghanistan, retiring with purpose, and more! You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. The group from First Southern Baptist in Jeremiah 29:13 Topeka at WWW. Do you find yourself seeking God only when youre caught up in your sorrows or fears? God has names for our joys too! (lyrics from Oh To Be Loved By Jesus, Thad Cockrell).

Reach the Nations?

Reaching the nations seem overwhelming to you? What about living like a missionary in your zip code? And what if every Christ follower lived like that? Reach the nations? Done! This does not require a new program at church, it requires the church be intentional in their everyday, ordinary life- your sleeping, eating, going to work (school), and walking around life. (Romans 12:1 & 2 The Message) Know your neighbors, become a regular at a coffee shop, grocery store, gym, invite non-believing co-workers to lunch, volunteer in civic organizations. Dont just wear the scriptures on the back of your t-shirts, be Gods hands and feet in your neighborhood. Dont get caught up in comfort. Be intentional! Shiggaion!

Does anxiety ever just appear in your life with no warning? Does fear show its ugly head? And what about apathy? These are only three of the pack of emotions that suddenly appeared out of nowhere in my mind a few months ago. The summer had been full of travel, seeing family, lots of rest, and wonderful quiet time with God. About two hours this side of the Kansas state line, I was overcome by one emotion after another. So where did all of this come from? For heavens sake, Id just returned from the Billy Graham Training Center! School began almost immediately after my return. So the first day, as I was preparing for in-service training, after my quiet time, I turned to some music for inspiration to encourage me. One line from this song stuck in my head all day, all week, and into the next week. Wow- I was so thankful for those words of encouragement, which served to be a reminder to me that He is in control. I got to the place where I could honestly sing that and mean it. I KNOW Im not alone here. You, my sisters in the Lord, have shared with me from time to time, situations and emotions you have had to deal with. Thankfully, our God is so faithful throughout His word to encourage us. Psalm 125: 1 says, Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. Lets hold onto that! HE is our rock! Oh, Im thankful for His work in my heart. Praise His name! Praying for you His many blessings, Patti granaboz@mac.com

Whatevers in front of me, I choose to sing, Hallelujah.
