PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 INSERTS AND CLAMPS A. Inserts: Malleable iron case of galvanized steel shell and expander plug for threaded connection with lateral adjustment, top slot for reinforcing rods, lugs for attaching to forms. Size inserts to suit threaded hanger rods. Provide suitable arrangements for all pipe hangers supported from steel structure or structural members welded to building steel structure using beam clamps. Clamping arrangements shall be in accordance with BS 3974 Part 2.

PIPE HANGERS AND SUPPORTS Pipe hangers and supports shall be in accordance with BS 3974 and the following: A. Generally all horizontal piping shall be supported with steel pipe hangers. Hanger assembly shall comprise: 1. 2. Pipe clip or one piece strap complete with load and clip bolts. Sling rod having a sling eye at the lower end and a spherical washer and nuts at the top end. Pipe hangers shall be designed and selected in accordance with BS 3974 so that they are suitable for load carried and temperature range. Pipe clips for cold insulated pipes shall be of suitable size to fit over load bearing insulation. Alternatively load bearing metal shield may be used between insulation and pipe clip. Multiple or Trapeze Hangers: Steel channels with welded spacers clamps, ubolts and hanger rods, cast iron roll and stand for hot pipe sizes 150 mm and over. Wall Support: Pipe sizes to 75 mm, cast iron hook. Wall Support for Pipe Sizes 100 mm and Over: Welded steel bracket and wrought steel clamp, adjustable steel yoke and cast iron roll for hot pipe sizes 150 mm and over Vertical Support: Steel riser clamp.

Floor Support for Pipe sizes to 100 mm and All Cold Pipe Sizes: Cast iron adjustable pipe saddle, locknut nipple, floor flange and concrete pier or steel support. Floor Support for Hot Pipe Sizes 150 mm and over: Adjustable cast iron roll and stand, steel screws and concrete pier or steel support. Design hangers to impede disengagement by movement of supported pipe. Provide copper plated hangers and supports for copper piping or provide sheet lead packing between hanger or support and piping.

HANGER RODS A. Provide steel hanger rods, threaded both ends, or continuous threaded.

DUCT HANGERS AND SUPPORTS A. B. C. Hangers: Galvanized steel band iron or rolled angle and 9.5 mm rods. Wall Supports: Galvanized steel band iron or fabricated angle bracket. Vertical Support at Floor: Rolled angle.

FLASHING A. B. Steel Flashing: 26 gage (0.50 mm) galvanized steel. Lead Flashing: 24.5 kg/square meter (5 lb./sq. ft.) sheet lead for waterproofing, 5 kg/square meter (1 lb./sq. ft.) sheet lead to soundproofing. Safes: 24.5 kg/square meter (5 lb./sq. ft.) sheet lead or 0.20 mm (8 mil) thick neoprene. Caps: Steel, 22 gage (0.80 mm) minimum, 16 gage (1.50 mm) at fire resistance structures.

SLEEVES A. B. Pipes through Floors: Schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe. Pipes through Beams, Walls, Fire Proofing, Footings, Potentially Wet Floor: Form with steel pipe or cast iron pipe diameter shall not be less than 50 mm larger in diameter than the pipe to be installed. Round Ducts: Form with galvanized steel. Rectangular Ducts: Form with galvanized steel or wood. Size all sleeves large enough to allow for movement due to expansion and to provide for continuous insulation.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSERTS A. Use inserts for suspending hangers from reinforced concrete slabs and sides of reinforced concrete beams wherever practicable.

Set inserts in position in advance of concrete work. Provide reinforcement rod in concrete for inserts carrying pipe over 100 mm or ducts over 1524 mm wide. Where concrete slabs form finished ceiling, finish inserts flush with slab surface.

Install hangers to provide minimum 12.7 mm clear space between finished covering and adjacent work. Place a hanger within 0.305 m of each horizontal elbow. Use hangers which are vertically adjustable 38 mm minimum after piping is erected. Support horizontal soil pipe near each hub, with 1.5 m maximum spacing between hangers. Support vertical piping at every other floor. Support vertical soil pipe at each floor at hub. Where several pipes can be installed in parallel and at same elevation, provide multiple or trapeze hangers. Where practical, support riser piping independently of connected horizontal piping.

3.05

EQUIPMENT BASES AND SUPPORTS. A. Provide for major equipment, reinforced concrete housekeeping bases poured directly on structural floor slab 150 mm thick minimum, extended 150 mm minimum beyond machinery bed plates. Provide templates, anchor bolts and accessories required for mounting and anchoring equipment.

Construct supports of structural steel members or steel pipe and fittings. Brace and fasten with flanges bolted to structure. Provide rigid anchors for ducts and pipes immediately after vibration connections to equipment.

PRIMING A. Prime coat exposed steel hangers and supports. Hangers and supports located in crawl spaces, pipes shafts and suspended ceiling spaces are not considered exposed.

3.07

FLASHING A. B. Flash and counter flash where mechanical equipment passes through weather or water proofed walls, floors, and roofs. Flash vent and soil pipes projecting 75 mm minimum above finished roof surface with lead worked 25 mm minimum into hub, 200 mm minimum clear on sides with minimum 600 mm x 600 mm sheet size. For pipes through outside walls turn flange back into wall and caulk. Flash floor drains over finished areas with lead 250 mm clear on sides with minimum 900 mm x 900 mm sheet size. Fasten flashing to drain clamp device. Provide curbs for mechanical roof installations 200 mm minimum high. Flash and counter flash with steel, soldered and waterproofed. Provide continuous lead or neoprene safes below air supply casing, built-up mop sinks, shower stalls, shower room floors located above finished rooms. Solder at joints, flash into floor drains and turn up 150 mm into walls or to top of curbs and caulk into joints. Provide lead flashing around ducts and pipes passing from equipment rooms, installed according to manufacturer's data for sound control.

SLEEVES A. Set sleeves in position in advance of concrete work. Provide suitable reinforcing around sleeves. Extend sleeves through potentially wet floors 25 mm above finished floor level. Caulk sleeves full depth and provide floor plate. Where piping or ductwork passes through floor, ceiling or wall close off space between pipe or duct and construction with non-combustible insulation. Provide tight fitting metal caps on both sides and caulk. Install chrome plated escutcheons where piping passes through finished surfaces.
