PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 DESCRIPTION A. Work Included : This section covers the furnishing and installation of all miscellaneous metal work and related accessories, whether shown on the Contract Drawings in detail or required in general, to perform the intent to make a complete and operable facility. SUBMITTALS A. Catalog Cuts and Manufacturers Data : The Contractor shall provide, prior to purchase, catalog cuts and manufacturers data for all pre-engineered products to be purchased, for review. Certifications : Material certificates issued by the Supplier, setting forth the type and chemical composition of all stock metal. Manufacturers certificates setting forth the name or brand of all off the shelf items, and certification that all materials and products furnished conform to the specified requirements.

C. Shop Drawings : 1. Drawings shall show erection layout, framing and supports with unit dimensions and sections. Type and location of welds and/or bolted fasteners. Welding shall be indicated by AWS standard welding symbols.

TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE 1. Transportation and Handling : Structural steel shall not be handled until paint has dried thoroughly. Avoid paint abrasions and other damage. Steel work shall be transported in the largest practical lengths. All pieces bent or otherwise damage will be rejected. 2. Protection : Material shall be stored away from mud and dirt and proper drainage of the storage area shall be provided. Protect from damage or soiling by adjacent construction operation. Storage : Storage of fabricated steel at the job-site shall be responsibility of the contractor. Store material at the job-site in manner which does not overload the existing or newly-constructed structures. Protect material against excessive deflation, corrosion or deterioration.

QUALITY CONTROL The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of all furnished items and as such, shall develop and submit a Quality Control Program for review. The program shall cover those items intended for shop inspection, field supervision, and the procedures for carrying out same, all in compliance with Section 01430, Construction Quality Control:.

PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 GENERAL A. All goods and products covered by these specifications shall be procured, when available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by Consultant. Steel : 1. Shapes, bars and plates conform to ASTM A 6 and to one of the following : a) b) c) ASTM A 36 with a min. yield strength of 248 Mpa (36 ksi). ASTM A 441 with a min. yield strength of 345 Mpa (50 ksi). F. Welding Electrodes : 1. Welding electrodes for manual shielded metal-arc welding shall conform to the Specification for covered carbon steel Arc welding electrodes, AWS A 5.1, latest edition, or the Specification for Low Alloy Steel Covered Arc Welding electrodes, AWS A 5.5, latest edition. Bare electrodes and granular flux used in the submerged-arc process shall conform to F 60 or F 70 AWS flux classifications of the Specification for Carbon Steel electrodes and Fluxes for Submerged Arc Welding, AWS A 5.17, latest edition. Welding electrodes for aluminum and/or stainless steel shall be as selected by the Contractor and shall be submitted to Consultant for review when requested. Electrodes shall provide full-strength welds without reduction in corrosion resistance of the parent metal. Corrosion resistance of the parent metal. Corrosion resistance of the weld metal shall not be less than the corrosion resistance of the parent metal.

UNIDENTIFIED STOCK MATERIAL Unidentified stock material consisting of material which cannot be identified by a certified mill test reports, may be used subject to the requirements of this Section. Testing requirements for unidentified stock material shall be determined by the Contractor and reviewed by Consultant. Testing requirement shall be included in the Contractors Quality control Program and implemented according to the requirements of Section 01430.

2.04

DISSIMILAR METALS Used of dissimilar metals which are liable to lead to galvanic action will not be permitted in the work.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 FABRICATION A. General : No fabrication will be commenced until documents under Submittals:, 1.03 herein, are reviewed by Consultant. The Contractor however, shall be responsible for the correct interpretation of the work to be done and for the accuracy of the detailed dimension. Steel : Fabricate steel works in accordance with Part 3, Section 05110, Structural Steel. Casting : Castings shall be made free from cracks, swells, holes and cold shuts and have a smooth finish. Before leaving the foundry and casting shall be thoroughly cleaned, treated and tested in accordance with the requirements shown in the ASTM Standard selected by the contractor from the listing in Sub-Section 2.01 E. After testing, acceptable castings which will not be galvanized shall receive a fusing bonded epoxy (FEE) system in accordance with AWWA C 213 or a high build coal tar epoxy system. D. Anchor Bolts : Anchor bolts shall be as listed and detailed on the Contract Drawings. Sleeves, anchor bolt shields and anchor plates shall also be provided where they are indicated on the contract Drawings. Each bolt shall be furnished with two nuts and sufficient threads to permit a nut to be installed on each side of the base plate. All anchor bolts, nuts and washers shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, threads being undercut to provide a tolerance equal to ANSI B 18.2.1, Class 2 A, unless shown to be black on the contract Drawings. E. Embedments : 1. Embedded materials shall be accurately fabricated and assembled, warped or bent sections which do not fit into the concrete forms as required shall be replaced with suitable material. All miscellaneous iron embedded in concrete shall be galvanized, post treated (phosphatized) and coated with coal tar epoxy in accordance with SSPC-SP 10-63-T. Sleeves through concrete and masonry, except as otherwise noted shall be fabricated from standard weight steel pipe or from a 4 mm thick steel plate. The pipe sleeve (ID) shall be protected against corrosion by application of an epoxy system. Sleeves shall be machine cut or flame cut and ground smooth. Aluminum material shall not be used for embedment in concrete, unless specifically shown on the contract drawings and provision made for protective coatings.

Vertical and Ships Ladders : 1. Ladder assemblies shall be constructed of either steel or cast iron with shaped plates, rods or bars as shown on the contract drawings, conforming to ASTM A 36 or A 27 respectively. Fabricate ladders for locations shown on the contract Drawings with dimensions, spacings, details and anchorages as indicated thereon. Fit rails in center line of side rails, plug-weld and grind smooth on outer rail faces. Provides necessary brackets and fasteners for installation. Brackets for vertical ladders shall hold the ladder center line at a minimum of 180 mm from face of the structure to which the ladder is affixed. All welding shall be done with fillets dressed to uniform radius, excess metal removed and welds ground smooth and flush. Butt welded joints shall be of the flush type. Steel assemblies shall be galvanized, unless noted otherwise on the Contract Drawings in conformance to ASTM A 386, using weight of zinc coating for various classes of material and thickness of pieces in the assemblies based on (Avg. of specimens) minimum allowable weight of zinc coating 610 g/m2.

Handrails : 1. Handrails shall be constructed of material in smooth and free of mill scale, roll marks and pitting. ASTM A 120 pipe shall be used unless shown otherwise on the Contract Drawings. Maximum spacing of posts shall be 1.8 meters unless shown otherwise on the contract drawings. Angles, offsets and other changes in alignment of railings shall be made with acurately-mitred joints or welded railing fittings. 2. Welding shall be done with fillets dressed to uniform radius, excess metal removed and welds ground smooth and flush. Welded joints shall be of the flush type. Members shall be neatly coped and continuously welded at junctions of posts and rails. Flattering of the rail or post ends at junctions of posts and rails will not be permitted. Fittings or other connectors shall not be used at junctions of posts and rails. Steel hand railing exposed to the weather and/or shown on the Contract Drawings to be galvanized shall be galvanized after fabrication. Prior to galvanizing, fabricated sections shall have internal openings so that there are not closed or blind section of pipe. Exterior hand rails shall be zinc coated in accordance with ASTM A 386, class A or B, receiving 610 g/m2 zinc coating followed by approved method of surface preparation under ASTM D 2092 for finish coating.

When assembled, posts shall be vertical and longitudinal members shall be parallel with each other and with the platform or walkway surface or slope of stairs, or other supporting members. In any section or run of railing, the centerlings of members shall be in true alignment, lying in the same vertical plane. Except as otherwise indicated on the contract Drawings. The top rails shall run continuously over the posts and the posts shall be continuous through the lower rail or rails. Hand railings that intersect structural bracing shall be fabricated in normal lengths for field cutting and welding the bracing.

Floor Plates : 1. Checkered floor plates shall be fabricated from four way safety nonskid raised pattern plate, minimum thickness 6 mm, unless shown otherwise. Steel types shall be galvanized as per ASTM 525 m regular spangle as indicated in table 1 with (Z) 700 coating designation. Holes for bolting, unless shown to be field-welded, shall be shoppunched, reamed and countersunk to suit fasteners to be used.

Grating : 1. Grating shall be of the type of material shown on the Contract Drawings. Grating fasteners shall consist of 6 mm diameter flux filled stainless steel welded stud with stainless steel hexagonal nuts and 14 gage hot-dipped galvanized U clips fitting between and hooking over the bearing bars or by proprietary fixing device as recommended by the manufacturer. Steel grating shall be hot-dipped galvanized after fabrication in accordance with ASTM A 123. Grating shall be banded at all edges and at cut-outs. Steel gratings shall be fastened with a minimum of (4) four fasteners per panel.

Welding : 1. Except as otherwise specified, all welds, welding and related operations shall be in conformity with the applicable provisions of AWS D1.1. Except as otherwise specified, welding shall be performed using only those joint details which have a prequalified status when performed in accordance with the referenced AWS code. Electrodes shall be selected for steel parts as specified in subsection 2.01 G.

3.02

ERECTION A. General : 1. All metal work and/or other parts of fabricated assemblies shall be checked prior to delivery by the contractors shop quality control representative for workmanship and conformity to shop drawings. Holes and/or other provisions for field connections shall be accurate and shop-checked so that proper fit will be provided when units are assembled in the filed. Erection drawings shall be prepared and all separate pieces shall be piece-marked as indicated on such drawings. Pieces shall be match marked where required either by notations on the drawings or by proper identification. The suitability and capacity of all plant and equipment as well as all occupational safety practices associated with the work shall be to the satisfaction the Consultant. All parts shall be assembled accurately as indicated on the drawings and match marks shall be carefully followed. Light drafting to draw the parts together will be acceptable but drifting to match unfair holes will not be acceptable. Enlargements of holes necessary to make connections in the field may be done by burning followed by grinding with care being taken not be weaken the adjoining metal.

Field Welding : Field welding shall conform to the requirements specified under welding, 3.01 herein.

Field Painting : 1. Galvanized surfaces scratched or otherwise damaged during delivery, unloading or erection shall be thoroughly cleaned by wire brushing the damaged area to remove all loose cracked or marred galvanizing. Cleaned areas shall then be painted with one or two component organic zinc paint. Damaged or inadequate paint films of shop painted miscellaneous metal materials and accessible surfaces of field welds and connection bolts shall be cleaned and primed in accordance with the designated coating system. Aluminum surfaces which will be in contact with dissimilar metals shall be heavily coated with zinc chromate pigment, synthetic resin type paint. Aluminum surfaces which will be in contact with concrete or mortar shall be given a heavy coat of bitumen coal tar epoxy product as specified and/or recommended by SSPC, Systems and Specifications, volume II.
