DEBATING EUROPE: AUSTERITY POLICIES

KEY RESULTS OF AN OPINION SURVEY, SEPTEMBER 2013

Results from a mixed mode random phone / online survey covering all but one member states of the European Union between the 13 and 23 September, 2013. Survey respondents were recruited from nationally representative online panels. Interviews in Malta, Cyprus and Hungary were carried out only over the telephone, and Luxembourg was not covered. The overall sample size of the survey was 6,177 respondents, selected proportionally to the population in each of the member states. In member states where proportional sample allocation resulted in fewer than 50 respondents, the number of respondents was increased to 50. The samples were weighted nationally as well as cross-nationally to reflect the distribution of the population in some key aspects. The results were calibrated to Gallups latest probability survey in the European Union (2013 Spring/Summer), to filter out possible bias due to the online interviewing mode.
