Hydroen Sulide is commonly ound in
crude oil, and when exposed lo waler (also
common in crude) il orms H2SO4 - suluric
acid. 1his acid can eal ils way lhrouh a
sleel pipeline or slorae lank. l released
inlo lhe air, il is poisonous lo all who
inhale il.
1he slabilizalion process does lwo jobs: il
sweelens lhe "sour crude (removes lhe
hydroen sulide) and il reduces vapor
pressure, makin lhe crude sae or
shipmenl in lankers. 1he vapor pressure is
caused by lihl hydrocarbons - such as
melhane, elhane, propane, and bulane -
chanin rom liquid lo as as lhe crudes
pressure is lowered.

in a spheroid where lhe pressure is reduced

rise lo lhe lop, and are collecled by a Nash
as recovery syslem, al lhe same lime
