the Special Program of Assisted Reproduction (SPARA program of the Bedford Stem Cell Research Foundation)

SPARthe Special Program of Assisted Reproduction is a world renowned program that combines PCR HIV Semen Testing and Sperm Washing to screen and prepare semen specimens from HIV-infected men for safe IVF procedures, has helped many HIV positive gay men have children safely. It is based on research findings that approximately two-thirds of semen specimens produced by healthy, HIV infected men have an undetectable amount of HIV. Sperm from such specimens are safer for use in assisted reproduction than washed sperm from untested specimens, or from specimens that test positive for virus. The program is run by the Bedford Stem Cell Research Foundation (www.bedfordresearch.org), a not for profit 501c(3) organization, which conducts research to cure currently incurable diseases, including HIV.

Cambridge Universitys Centre for Family Research

The Centre for Family Research is a multidisciplinary research institute within the Department of Psychology at the University of Cambridge. It has an international reputation for its research on families, and our interests cover parents, children and family relationships. The director the Centre is Professor Susan Golombok. Susan has pioneered research on lesbian mother families, gay father families, single mothers by choice and families created by assisted reproductive technologies including in vitro fertilisation (IVF), donor insemination, egg donation and surrogacy. Her research has not only challenged commonly held assumptions about these families but also has contested widely held theories of child development by demonstrating that structural aspects of the family, such as the number, gender, sexual orientation, and genetic relatedness of parents, is less important for childrens psychological well-being than the quality of family relationships.

About Los Angeles Surrogacy Center:

Los Angeles Surrogacy Center is a full-service agency dedicated to providing an outstanding surrogacy journey for recipient parent and surrogate mother alike, offering the highest caliber of personalized service to both equally. Our agency fee is intentionally significantly less than what other agencies charge, and we do not even charge a separate agency fee for egg donation, which alone saves our recipient parents thousands of additional dollars. Founded by a 4-time surrogate mother, we recognize a healthy surrogate has the best odds of delivering a healthy baby, and our agency has established a mandatory wellness program for each of our surrogate mothers. Furthermore, our stringent requirements for accepting a surrogate mother vastly exceed the industry standard, especially with regard to her history of previous C-Section deliveries. Your healthy baby is our ultimate goal!

About PlanetHospital

PlanetHospital.com llc is the worlds first and largest Medical Tourism company. The company started quite by accident in September 2002 when Founder Rudy Rupak and his wife, Valerie, traveled to Thailand. Valerie became ill and was hospitalized during the trip. It was then that they discovered the potential of medical tourism and thus PlanetHospital was born. The company helps people find the best surgeons around the world safely and affordably from knee surgeries, cosmetic surgery, to complex procedures such as kidney transplants and of course surrogacy. In fact PlanetHospital was the first in Indian surrogacy when in 2006, PlanetHospital sent the first American patient and the first Australian patient to India for surrogacy. This was followed by the first gay surrogacy client to come to India in late 2006 and the first gay surrogacy client in Panama in 2008. The company faced tremendous pressures from anti-gay groups, including threats to stop the practice of assisting men having babies yet they went on to pioneer gay surrogacy for an HIV+ father successfully. PlanetHospital has been featured in over 300 media stories including Wall Street Journal, CNN and is very active in promoting gay surrogacy causes around the world.

About Sara M. Clay, P.C.

Sara M. Clay, P.C. focuses on family building of all dynamics. In particular, same sex couples trying to build their family have a variety of obstacles to overcome outside the medial aspects. Georgia has no legislation restricting gamete donation or surrogacy, and no existing case law to prohibit such instances, thus making it appealing to all families. Sara has been successful in establishing parentage, prior to the birth of the child, in same sex couples, effectively giving the Intended Parents their parental rights, including making medical decisions on behalf of the child to be born and thereafter. Equally important, the birth certificate of the child will have the names of both fathers listed as the only parents, and no second parent adoption is required, which is particularly beneficial in a state such as New York where surrogacy is not recognized.

About Men Having Babies

www.menhavingbabies.org Men Having Babies, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that spun off from a program that had ran at the NYC LGBT Center since 2005. It started as a peer support network for biological gay fathers and fathers-to-be, offering monthly workshops and an annual seminar. Over time it developed elaborate online resources, the groups mailing list expanded to about 1000 men from around the world, and it was asked to organize seminars, exhibits and workshops in other locations such as Barcelona, Paris, Tel Aviv and Los Angeles. Our mission includes: The provision of educational and practical information to assist gay prospective parents achieve biological parenting. Promoting the affordability of surrogacy related services for gay men through financial assistance and the encouragement of transparency and customer feedback. Promoting surrogacy practices that minimize the risks and maximize the potential short and long-term benefits to all involved. Raising awareness about the potential benefits and meaningful relationships surrogacy arrangements can bring about. Beyond the seminars and workshops, Men Having Babies runs several programs to promote its educational, advocacy and affordability mission, including:

Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP)

Men Having Babies created the Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) as part of our mission to promote the affordability of surrogacy services for gay men. The program will assist gay men who lack the financial resources for the costly process with direct financial grants, access to free or discounted services and medications, and help with individual crowdfunding e fforts. So far the funds came mostly from event sponsorship fees paid by supporting providers, and some from direct donations by parents and allies. A large number of clinics and agencies already agreed to provide discounts to eligible applicants, and several also committed to provide free services through our program to the most needy ones, valued at several hundred thousand dollars.

SurrogacyAdvisor
In an effort to promote transparency and affordability, in early 2012 Men Having Babies introduced surveys that provided feedback on program needs and ratings of agencies and clinics. The detailed feedback we received from hundreds of couples is reported at the SurrogacyAdvisor we created, which includes satisfaction levels, effectiveness measures, and real cost figures. This directory already helped many save thousands of dollars by identifying affordable effective providers. Please consult the directory if you are still shopping around, and if you havent done so already, please submit a survey yourself as well!

Living The New Normal

As part of our advocacy and community-building mission, and in light of the primetime NBC show about gay surrogacy dads, Men Having Babies launched a new Facebook page called Living The New Normal. It already has hundreds of gay dads and surrogates, and many photos! We use it as a community space where we can discuss and celebrate our real life experiences. While we still have our closed Facebook group for support and private discussions, this open page will allow us to converse with surrogates, family, and other allies. Based on survey feedback we also launched the worlds first Surrogacy Speakers Bureau, with hundreds of parents and future parents that are eager to speak to the press and in public events!
