Student Teacher: David King Lesson Topic: Writing, Speaking and Presenting Year Level: Prep Class size: 19 School: Toorak Primary Date: 24/10/2012 Time of Lesson: 12.30-13.30 Duration of Lesson: 60 min

Teaching Focus:
Focusing students on how to deliver formal oral presentation ie. maintaining eye contact, adjusting tone of voice, etc.

Student Learning Focus:


Students to consider and appropriately adjust physical demeanour for formal oral presentation.

Background knowledge:
Students prior exposure to public speaking.

AUSVELS:
Literacy - Speaking and listening Level 1: Understand the use of vocabulary in everyday contexts as well as a growing number of school contexts, including appropriate use of formal and informal terms of address in different contexts (ACELA1454) Understand that language is used in combination with other means of communication, for example facial expressions and gestures to interact with others (ACELA1444)

Student differences:
As this is an all class requirement no student differences to be considered. Some students may require more encouragement than others to elevate confidence.

Resources:
Student weather worksheet (completed Monday). Prop 'television scren'.

Whole group seated on floor.

Teacher to explain expectations of task and will model what is required. No activities required for this part of lesson.

Listening. Watching examples and asking questions should they be required.

Teacher to explain expectations of task and will model what is required. Teacher will use TV prop and read from previously prepared text. Teacher will state what aspects students are to note and use for their own presentation. "Listen to my voice" "Watch where I avert my eyes" Teacher also to advise students that they will be giving their own thoughts on presentations of classmates, and that they should be listening and watching to deduce a reasoned judgement.

Whole class. One student presenting at a time.

Student presenting behind prop. May have two volunteer students holding prop.

Students will be presenting, holding the prop or listening quietly.

Teacher to be prompting next student to present at appropriate time. Teacher will be assessing during presentation.

Students to give their own thoughts on presentations. Do they remember what is important when giving a formal presentation? (Raffle ticket for students who answer correctly). Feedback for peer assessment.
