Meditation
THE COMMAND Seek ye the Lord. It comes from one who has the right to command. Let not the fullness and freeness of the invitation lead you to think that you have nothing to do. It is true Jesus says he came to seek as well as to save the lost; yet he also declares we must seek if we would find. It is true, he stands at the door and knocks, yet we must knock if we would have it opened to us. It is true, God opens wide the door of his grace and proclaims, whosoever will may come, yet we must strive to enter in, He offers the water of life without money, yet we must buy it. God presses the gift of eternal life on us; yet it is true, I will yet for this be inquired by the house of Israel. God forces himself on no soul He offers himself, and then it is our privilege our duty to seek the Lord. We cannot sit down and wait for salvation. We must seek the Lord, though he be not far from us. Many of the young make the mistake of thinking that religion will come to them sometime in the future, and they need not concern themselves to seek. In every community there are a number of men of excellent character who hope that some day, through the prayers of their Christian wives, they will become Christians, yet they never stop earnestly to seek for themselves, ---So the years go by and they drift farther and farther from the things they have heard. Hear all ye what God declares. Seek ye the Lord. We must seek with all the heart. Then shall ye seek me and ye shall find me, when ye seek me with all the heart. Can you hope by a few fitful seekings to find the Lord? Seek as you do earthly prizes. What earnestness! What selfdenial! What difficulties are struggled against and overcome! And for what? For corruptible crowns! Alas! For the incorruptible crown you are not willing to take a little time for serious thought and prayer. The slightest hindrance will turn aside you purpose. The difficulties in your way are but the test of your earnestness. When Jesus answered not a word to the prayer of the anguished mother pleading for her child; yea cast in her face, that heathen dogs had no right to the childrens bread, she only drew the closer and put a deeper power to her appeal: Lord help me. When the crowd bade Bartimeus hush his cry, he but cried out the more exceedingly. When they press about the Lord prevented the four who bore the palsied man from entering the door. They made their entrance through the roof. What is it you are treating so lightly? IT IS ETERNAL LIFE! J. Roseboro

Congregational Life
Today, Pastor Murray will lead our worship services. Next Sunday, seminarian Russ Herman will conduct the worship services, the Lord willing. The Sunday School classes (beginners 7th Grade) are asked to meet upstairs today for a combined opening. The Psalter of the month is #184. Please review with your children. From the Deacons: There will be a collection today for the denominational Seminary Instructor Fund . You will find the new 2013-2014 Church Directory in your mailboxes today.

"The Lord willing" James 4:15 October 8 (Tuesday) 9:30 AM Ladies Bible Study. Coffee will be at 9:30 AM with study starting at 10 AM. All ladies are welcome and encouraged to join us. October 9 (Wednesday) 5:45 PM We will have our first fellowship meal and meeting of the season. We plan to eat promptly at 5:45 and finish the meal by 6:45 The speaker portion of the evening will start promptly at 7 PM. A flyer with details will be in your mailbox. October 9 (Wednesday) 7 PM We are delighted that Pastor Al Martin has agreed to speak at our monthly Wednesday Fellowship evenings. The subject he has chosen is A Happy, Holy, and Fruitful Household . He will give a series of practical talks on "God's Gracious Guidelines for Maintaining a Happy, Holy and Fruitful Spiritual Household, expounding and applying some of the many "one-anothering" passages in the New Testament epistles. We hope you will join us for what we trust will be mutually edifying study over the next few months. October 9 (Wednesday) 7 PM Boys & Girls Club. There will be a regular meeting for the girls and gym night for the boys. We will start collecting food for the food pantry. October 12 (Saturday) 7 PM Informal service at Mel Trotter Mission led by Pastor Al Martin. October 12 (Saturday) 7 PM YABS (Young Adult Book Study) will have game night.
