STRING QUARTETS WITH THE COULL
Friday 7 - Sunday 9 March 2014 Tutors: Members of the Coull Quartet
The Coull Quartet returns to give its usual friendly, expert advice and encouragement to up to ten pre-formed string quartets. Bring along whatever repertoire you choose. It helps us if one person books for the entire quartet. The Coull also gives a public concert on Friday 7 March at 8 pm, for which every course member receives a ticket and programme. Founded in 1974, and Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Warwick since 1977, the Coull Quartet has performed and broadcast extensively throughout the UK, the USA and Western Europe, and has also toured China, India, the Far East, South America and Australia. The Quartet has appeared at most of the major music societies and festivals in the UK, and gives an annual series of recitals at the renowned Warwick Arts Centre, where it is actively involved in the University of Warwicks flourishing musical life. The rare combination of maturity and freshness which characterises the Quartets performances is often singled out by reviewers: Here the playing is so brimful with enthusiasm and commitment, and at the same time so infused with the accumulated wisdom of three decades, that the music simply reinvents itself as it should. (The Strad) The Coull Quartet currently records for Somm Records, and their disc of quartets by Maw and Britten has received universal acclaim. In addition to being featured in Editors Choice in The Gramophone, it was also described as the Benchmark Recording by BBC Music Magazine. Their latest two CDs, of music by Sibelius and Ian Venables have recently received excellent reviews in the major musical publications. Accommodation
Benslow Music offers three grades of single or shared accommodation. Our Resident prices include standard single accommodation only (hand basin in the room and shared bathroom facilities).

Bed and breakfast

We are happy to provide bed and breakfast facilities before and after your course or for non-musical visits to the area. Ask us for availability and rates.

Deposit
To secure a place on this course a deposit of 40 is required (non-refundable).

Bring a friend
We welcome non-participating friends and partners for all or part of your course or for a meal or two when circumstances allow. Please let us know well in advance, and we will advise you of our rates.

Travelling
Benslow Music campus is a five-minute walk from Hitchin train station, which is served by fast, frequent trains from Cambridge, Peterborough and London Kings Cross. Road access from the A1(M) and the M1 is swift, and we are within easy reach of Luton and Stansted airports. Call us if you need help in planning your journey.

Checking in
This courses begins with tea at 7pm and you can register and occupy your room from 4pm onwards. The course ends at 4pm on the last day.
