Reflections on Sharing a Table

Scripture: Luke 7.36-50

Childrens SabbathOctober 20
Sponsored by the Children's Defense Fund, the National Observance of Children's Sabbaths Celebration is a way for faith communities to celebrate children as sacred gifts of the Divine, and provides the opportunity for houses of worship to renew and live out their moral responsibility to care, protect and advocate for all children. This celebration is a part of a broader children's movement that aims to unite communities and religious congregations of all faiths across the nation in shared concern for children and a common commitment to improving their lives and working for justice on their behalf. In that respect, each action is bigger, more powerful and more inspiring than the efforts of any one celebration. We will celebrate our first Childrens Sabbath as a community, along with other churches, synagogues, and mosques around the nation, on October 20.

Coming Soon to a Computer Screen Near You!

The office staff has been working with an outside consultant/web developer behind the scenes for several months to overhaul the website. The new siteplanned to go live early next weekoffers a redesign, updated content, and increased interactive opportunitiesvia the blog (primarily sermons currently), the calendar function and online giving. We hope that the more we work with the new site, the more functionality and communication we will have! You can continue to access the website via www.firstbaptistlawrence.com.

Likewise, this will be the page you see when you click Newsletter at the top of the website. Have no fear! You are at the right place. This new home for our newsletters (and eventually bulletins and other FBC publications) will allow us the functionality of archiving past newsletters and bulletins, and housing many, many documents at once.

Youth Group QuadNox (Fourth Night) at Clinton Lake

Youth from FBC Lawrence joined up with youth from FBC Topeka Sunday night for our first QuadNox (Fourth Night) event. (Though, yes, technically Sunday, September 29, was the fifth Sunday.) We played games, cooked hot dogs and Smores, and enjoyed a prayer walk experience at Clinton Lakeall on a perfect early fall evening!

Thanks to all who walked in the Crop Walk last Sunday. I would like to acknowledge Margaret Arnold for walking the complete 5K and for Kathy Stauffer joining at the last minute. for Cheryl Harader, the youth group, Pastor Meredith, the Purvis, Hite, and Schenkel families for joiningin and Addison Sturtevant. I hope I did not miss anyone. I have to account for all sheets, so please return to me or the church office as soon as possible--there are eleven (11) still out. You can still bring donations. God Bless and thank you so much for walking and for your donations. Ginger Boring.
