NSW VOTERS MAKE TRANSPORT AN ELECTION PRIORITY

Thursday 5 September 2013: Four-out-of-five of the NRMAs main transport priorities for the 2013 Federal Election have received funding commitments from the major parties. A spendometer for major NSW infrastructure projects has been released today, which showed funding commitments for WestConnex, the Pacific Highway, the F3 to M2 link and the Newell Highway. NRMA Motoring & Services President Wendy Machin thanked the states motorists for getting behind the NRMAs election campaign Demand Better Roads. Voters wanted to make sure the major parties did not forget transport infrastructure this election campaign and they have succeeded, with both parties making a number of major commitments, Ms Machin said. The public supported the NRMAs Demand Better Roads campaign with thousands signing the national online petition. Also, communities across NSW and the ACT came out in force to chalk up a message to politicians about tackling road and transport priorities that mattered to them. Both parties made major commitments to help fund the much needed WestConnex project. Billions of dollars were also committed to complete the upgrade of the Pacific Highway. Whoever wins this Saturday, the NRMA will have an important job to do over the next three years making sure the next Government delivers on these promises, Ms Machin said. The Pacific Highway upgrade, for example, has been promised for over 20 years and were still not there. The next three years will be so important to getting these projects finished and the NRMA will be there fighting hard to ensure we get the job done.
