Food waste in the United States is estimated at roughly between 30 to 40 percent of the food supply. In 2010, an estimated 133 billion pounds of food from U.S. retail food stores, restaurants, and homes never made it into peoples stomachs. The amount of uneaten food in homes and restaurants was valued at almost $390 per U.S. consumer in 2008, more than an average months worth of food expenditures. As a seasoned chef, Sezar Yavuz will provide information on how to cook efficiently in the kitchen and how to avoid waste.

Our Damietta Project focus is on food waste management and sustainabilty. All are welcome to come join us in this workshop.

After my abortion, I was broken and desperate for help. I turned to Project Rachel. After the experience, I left feeling like a whole person again. Forgiveness became a reality for me, a feeling I never imagined was possible. The pain of abortion haunts many women. Retreats offered by the Project Rachel ministry of the Archdiocese of Boston can help women find hope, healing and reconciliation after abortion. If you or a loved one is suffering from postabortion pain, contact Project Rachel about upcoming Come to the Waters of Healing retreats to be held October 26 and November 23, 2013. For more information and to register for the date of your choice, call Project Rachel at 508.651.3100 or email help@projectrachelboston.com. All inquiries are confidential.

We will reflect on seeing spirituality as an exploration into what is involved in becoming human, and how we can experience becoming human as an attempt to grow in sensitivity to self, to others, to the non-human aspects of creation, and to God who is within and beyond this totality. The focus in this perspective is on becoming human through relationships. Our reflection will also engage us in a deeper appreciation of the meaning of creation in Franciscan spirituality.

Spirituality of the Readings

28th Sunday of Ordinary Time C Reading I: 2 Kings 5:14-17 Responsorial Psalm 98:1, 2-3, 3-4 Reading II: 2 Timothy 2:8-13 Gospel: Luke 17:11-19

Spirituality of the Readings

life has been restored. His gratitude overflows. Naturally he offers a gift to Elisha in thanksgiving. This is a very healthy, normal reaction. When a person is loved this much, there is an outpouring of gratitude to the giver and, without thinking, their soul wants to give gifts in return.

The flesh of a little child. I performed a baptism not too long ago, and it was so easy to see the difference between my old flesh, applying water and oil, and the soft clean perfect skin of the fine baby girl receiving the sacrament.

Gratitude

Strangely, Elisha the prophet refuses this gift. We are not given an explicit reason, but probably he did not want rewards for doing gods work. So Naaman makes a dramatic reply. If you will not accept, please let me, your servant, have two mule-loads of earth, for I will no longer offer holocaust or sacrifice to any other god except to the lord. (gospel)

What would your reaction be if you went from leprosy to being fresh as a baby? Sundays Scriptures do just this: two leprosy cures and two reactions. In the gospel, Jesus cures ten lepers. He sends them off, saying, go show yourselves to the priests. On the way they realize they have been cleansed! But only one cured leper, and it is a Samaritan, a foreigner, has eyes to see what this healing meant. He alone comes back to Jesus extolling god in a loud voice. He drops to the ground in front of Jesus in gratitude. What about the other nine? They must have simply gone on their way, glad they had won the sweepstakes and not thinking about the source. They could have accepted the soul-cure that Jesus offered, along with the bodily one.

Mule-loads and all, he will use Israeli earth to show his gratitude. He will sacrifice to the god of Israel.

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius loyola are based on this kind of response, especially the last exercise, called, A Contemplation to Find gods love. When people on retreat realize, over time, how deeply they are loved, their desire is to give to the lover, to give, as a return.

It is different in the First Reading. There a leper, Naaman, is healed by Elisha the prophet. Naaman too was a foreigner, like the Samaritan, a general in the Syrian army. The Israeli prophet tells him to plunge into the Jordan river seven times. He carries out this strange routine just as instructed. The result? Naaman rushed back to Elisha giving copious thanks. He converts. He declares that there is no other god on earth but Israels god, and his whole

How would you have reacted? god has been seeking a mutual love relationship with you from the beginning of time. Do you ever sense this? Do you feel gratitude? Do you ever take time out to feel it? Could you take some time this week?

Notice that this implies an adult relationship, not a childs. An infant is filled with need after need after need, and it tells you all about them. The nine ungrateful lepers were like that. But adults want to give back as well as receive. yes, even give to god.

His flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean of his leprosy.

Along the way, she crosses paths with a teenaged Mexican gang member, El Casper, who is maneuvering to outrun his violent past. Affective Sexuality & Spirituality

The moving and provocative tale filmed in Israel and the West Bank - of two young men one Israeli, the other Palestinian, who discover they were accidentally switched at birth, and the complex repercussions on themselves and their respective families.

An opportunity to understand the intricacy and oneness of these very important dimensions of the human person, this discussion will offer some concrete examples of how to achieve intimacy in a holistic, prayerful way without divorcing or separating either of them. These God given dimensions of personhood, affective sexuality and spirituality, impel us to reach greater levels of integration thereby increasing selfknowledge, discipline, overall happiness, fulfillment and deep inner peace. Open to all members of the Shrine community.

Joseph (Jules Sitruk), an 18-year-old musician preparing to join the Israeli army for his mandatory military service, lives at home in a comfortable suburb of Tel Aviv with his parents, France-born physician Orith (Emmanuelle Devos) and Israel-born army commander Alon Silbers (Pascal Elb). A blood test for Josephs military service reveals that he is not their biological son; during the Gulf War Joseph was evacuated from a clinic along with another baby; both were given back to the wrong families. While the Palestinian Joseph went to Tel Aviv with the Silbers, their actual Jewish son, Yacine (Medhi Dehbi) was brought to the West Bank by the Arab couple, Said (Khalifa Natour) and Leila (Areen Omari). The revelation turns the lives of the two families upside-down, forcing them to reassess their respective identities, values and beliefs.
