7:00 7:10 Welcome & Overview of Agenda Parker welcomes those present 7:10 7:45 Updates (5 minutes each) Program (MC & David) o April Event Review David and MC offer thanks to everyone who assisted at the event A big thanks to Catie for balancing so much information at the door! The consensus is that was an excellent event SIETAR did not make any money at the event

SIETAR owes CIC approximately $62.50 for our half of the food: David will get the official numbers from Sellane and submit them to Philippe o June 14th Lionel Laroche: Recruiting from a Culturally Diverse Talent Pool It can be considered a practical follow-up to Blaise Enrights presentation on Diversity in the Canadian Workplace We still need a venue for this event and are thinking about the YWCA o Form for presentation ideas Parker has retrieved a form from SIETAR Texas David is making the appropriate changes to the form and will send it out for feedback when finished o MC expresses her appreciation for everyones help, especially Davids!!! Membership (Catie) o We have 41 members with 22 pending renewal Catie has been working on the 22 to renew! o We have 2 new members and 2 new renewals o We have 35 regular memberships, 2 organizational, 3 associate this does not add up to 41. I will include the final numbers in our official minutes o In the advertising for upcoming events, MC and David will include a note that reminds members that it would be cost effective to renew their memberships Catie will write the note and pass it along to MC and David o The membership form that is currently online needs to be updated

There needs to be an option for organizational memberships on it Catie will talk to Philippe about updating the membership form Parker has the PDF of the brochure Treasurer (Philippe) o In the bank: $1,575.61 o Invested GIC: $2,500.00 o Floats: Approximately $200 o Total: $4,275.61 Communications Coordinator (Gen) o We now have accounts with: Facebook.com Craigslist MySpace We may want to consider joining Meetup.com once we have our website up, because while it is $12/mo, it seems very popular (other multicultural groups have very high membership numbers) o Georgia Straight is still not happening! Parker is going to follow up for us Gen and MC to forward Parker emails previously sent to Georgia Straight Newsletter o Zhenyi has 85% of it o We are just waiting for one last event report o Hopefully the newsletter will come out in the beginning of June or end of May o We have all the event recordings from January o Reviews would be helpful o We are also putting our event recording callouts

What is the motivation and incentive for event recording because there has been a low response rate? The call outs are for anyone attending A person could be assigned to this job We could ask people on the spot at the event We need to ensure that everyone gets their chance to record, and then the executive should take this on if no one else volunteers There has been zero response The report is like a personal event review it is summary and a personal perspective Susan will report on the June event, while Parker will report on the event following Junes (September?) o There should be an ISSI review in the newsletter (Carol Lee has offered to do this) o There should be a Message from the President from Indy o All new members to write up a short bio, ideally with a picture Rachel will send out a description of what to include o Please have submissions to Mark by May 16, 2007 Outreach (Susan) o Susan sent her report to the executive with a list of organizations o There was also a mock-up letter using MCs template o There are potentially 25 letters to go out o The letter will be signed by Susan on behalf of the organization

o We could have 2 letters to send to organizations: a specific letter with information about our next event, and a more general letter with a list of previous events o We should not do an outreach blitz until we have the website up Website (Masouma) o Masouma and Indy are meeting with Jeff from Memlink on Saturday (May 12, 2007) He will have a general outline contract We are getting a deal 50% off so for $25 or $12.50 a month which includes hosting He would take what is on the current site and put it onto the new site and then we would add to it o We might want to all get gmail accounts, hotmail accounts, or Memlink accounts because we currently have it running through Philippes work place o Memlink should hopefully provide us with emails o We could launch the memlink site at one of our events: potentially the September event o We would have a members only section on the site o We would include links, including links to other SIETAR groups 7:45 8:30 Priority Updates (5 minutes each) Different ways of engaging (David & Parker) o David & Parker brainstormed about plays, readings and movies o We could do SIETAResque events o We could have an online discussion board, lectures, resources, and book and movies reviews

o We could arrange for outings to SIETAR-related movies and events o Right now our engagement is limited to our events Broadening intercultural & Target specific groups (Susan) o September 25th, BC Paraplegic Association Plan for conference 2008 (Masouma & Philippe) o How do we work together with CIC? ISSI participants wanted more options or more presentations, and this year it was suggested that we could have a bigger event If we combined a conference with ISSI, it would likely be before ISSI How do we get people from campus out? What is intercultural? is a potential topic that could combine new perspectives with traditional perspectives, and the applied with the theoretical Summer Gathering o The gathering is usually in August (potentially August 8) o Rachel has generously offered the use of her roof o Jericho and Spanish Banks is good possibility o We could invite family and friends Logo o Logo issues have become political in the past o Parker will ask Peggy Pusch about the logo Is there a difference between SIETARs rules for logos versus general images? What are SIETARs general guidelines for logos?

o We will submit a call for logo submissions to the newsletter Submissions must be in by the end of July 8:45 9:00 Next Event Recruiting from a Culturally Diverse Talent Pool with Lionel Laroche Date: Thursday, June 14 Location: TBA Next Meeting Date: July 11, 2007 (no June meeting) Location: TBA Chair: Susan Closing/wrap up
