Scope 1.1 1.2 This Specification, together with the Data Sheet 8130-ENG (8130-M-ENG) and Purchase Order covers the minimum requirements for side-entry mixers. The Vendor must have manufactured at the proposed location of manufacture, at least two mixers of same design as the proposed units and must have comparable power rating, speed and liquid service. These mixers must have been in service for at least one year and must be performing satisfactorily.

Conflicts and Deviations 2.1 Any conflicts between this specification and other applicable Saudi Aramco Materials System Specifications (SAMSSs), Engineering Standards (SAESs), Standard Drawings (SASDs), or industry standards, codes, and forms shall be resolved in writing by the Company or Buyer Representative through the Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran. Direct all requests to deviate from this specification in writing to the Company or Buyer Representative, who shall follow internal company waiver procedure and forward such requests to the Manager, Consulting Services Department of Saudi Aramco, Dhahran.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B1.1 ASME B1.13M ASME B16.5 ASME SEC II ASME SEC VIII ASME SEC IX 4 Design 4.1 General 4.1.1 All deviations from this Specification shall be separately listed by the Vendor in his quotation and shall refer to the relevant paragraph numbers. The Vendor may offer alternative designs. Side-entry mixers shall be driven by an electric motor. Only gear drive arrangements are allowed. The Vendor shall provide mixers complete with driver and transmission unless otherwise specified in the Purchase Order. Swivel angle mixers are required to prevent Bottom Sludge and Wax (BS & W) in tanks. The swivel mechanism shall be manually operated, unless otherwise specified, and shall be capable of moving the impeller shaft in the horizontal plane between 30 left and 30 right of the tank radius through the center of the manhole cover. The swivel angle mixer shall have a facility for setting the impeller angle, in relation to the tank, in the zero position and at 10, 20 and 30 both left and right of the zero setting. The angle settings shall have an indicator and shall be marked. A device shall be provided to ensure that the mixer remains locked at the selected angle during operation. The ball on which the mixer swivels shall be of stainless steel with an average surface roughness of Ra = 0.2 micrometers (8 microinch). (Ra is the arithmetic average deviation from the mean surface). Flexible bellows shall not be used. 4.1.5 Fixed angle mixers shall be used for blending only. The fixed offset angle shall be 10 to the left of the tank radius running through the center of the manhole cover in which the mixer is to be installed. This shall apply for all tank diameters. Mixers shall be designed for both continuous and intermittent operation. When specified that the mixer will operate during filling or emptying, allowance shall be made in the shaft design for liquid movement in the tank. The Vendor shall assume responsibility for satisfactory hydraulic and mechanical performance of the equipment for the specified service. When the mixer geometry, shaft power and input speed are specified by the Buyer, the Vendor shall be responsible only for mechanical performance of the mixer. The Vendor shall comment on the suitability of the Buyer's specification for the intended service. Mixer components (impeller mounted on shaft) shall be designed to fit through the vessel manhole openings specified on the Data Sheet. Pressure-containing parts shall have a minimum corrosion allowance of 3 mm (1/8 in). Rotation of impellers shall be clockwise when viewed from drive-end towards the impeller and the mixing action shall be away from the tank shell. Unless otherwise specified, the equipment will be installed outdoors in a desert area, with relative humidity from zero to 100% (condensing) and ambient temperatures from 0C to 50C (32F to 120F) (metal temperatures can reach 70C (158F) when exposed to direct solar radiation). The equipment shall be designed to withstand these conditions. Additionally, equipment specified for costal installation shall be protected against failure due to windborne sea water spray and the accumulation of wetted salt (NaCl).

4.2

Rotating Elements 4.2.1 Shaft 4.2.1.1 4.2.1.2 The shaft shall be a solid, one piece design. The shaft or shaft sleeves shall be overlaid with wear resistant material, such as Stellite or Colmonoy, under the mechanical seal dynamic elastomer area. The rotating element assembly shall be designed with a first critical speed at least 210% of the impeller operating speed. Shaft shall be sized to transmit the full torque available at the driver nameplate rating and to limit total shaft deflection at the mechanical seal faces to 50 micrometers (0.002 in) or less. The shaft shall also transmit the maximum torque at any specified operating condition, including transient starting torque. 4.2.1.5 The clearance between impeller tips and tank wall in extreme position of angular location shall not be less than half the impeller diameter.

Impeller 4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 The impeller (propeller) may be either a single piece casting or a fabricated design. The impeller shall be keyed to the shaft. If the mixer has a straight shaft end, the Vendor shall provide a slip fit (defined as maximum 0.005 mm/mm of diameter, loose).

Shaft Seals 4.3.1 4.3.2 4.3.3 Shaft shall be sealed by means of a mechanical seal. Mechanical seal assemblies shall be removable without removing the drive unit. Shaft sleeve shall extend beyond the outer face of the seal end plate.

4.3.4

Single mechanical seals shall have an auxiliary seal or throttle bushing of non-sparking material and a drain to connect a liquid level switch leakage alarm. When specified, the Vendor shall provide the level switch. Provision for venting the seal chamber shall be made to ensure that it is completely filled with liquid prior to start-up.

Anti-friction bearings shall be selected for a 25,000 hours L-10 minimum bearing life, based on maximum total load. Anti-friction bearings shall be the standard available types and sizes. Bearings shall be re-greaseable or shall be splash-oil lubricated. Oil reservoirs shall be equipped with fill and drain connections with plugs. The recommended minimum and maximum oil levels shall be marked.

Constant level oilers, if provided, shall have transparent reservoirs and protective wire cages.

Shut-off Device A shut-off device with corrosion-resistant metal sealing faces shall be provided to allow removal and replacement of bearings and seals without emptying the contents of the tank. The sealing faces may be Teflon coated. The device shall meet the following requirements: a) b) c) d) It shall be capable of tight shut-off at not less than twice the maximum operating pressure. It shall incorporate a checking device to ensure that shut-off is tight prior to dismantling. It shall have a positive locking action to prevent accidental loosening while maintenance is being carried out. It shall remain operative when not used for periods of up to five years in the specified environmental conditions.

4.6

Mounting Flange The mounting flange shall be in accordance with ASME B16.5 or as specified on the Data Sheet.

4.7

Materials 4.7.1 Materials shall comply with the Data Sheet. The Vendor may offer equivalent or better materials. Proposals to substitute materials shall be submitted to the Company or Buyer Representative for review and approval by the Chairman of the Rotating Equipment Standards Committee. Materials shall be identified in the proposal with the applicable ASTM number, including material grade. When no such designation is available, the Vendor's material specification giving physical properties, chemical composition and test requirements shall be included in the proposal. Materials, casting factors and the quality of any welding shall be equal to that required by ASME SEC VIII D1 and ASME SEC IX. The Vendor's data report forms, as specified in the code, are not required. Ferrous pressure casing castings shall not be repaired by peening, plugging, burning in, or impregnating. When weld repairs to castings are authorized by the ASTM Specification for the material, repair welding shall be in accordance with that specification. When radiography, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant inspection of welds or materials is required or specified by the Buyer, radiography shall be in accordance with Section VIII, Paragraph UW52; ultrasonic inspection shall be in accordance with Appendix XII; magnetic particle inspection shall be in accordance with Appendix VI; and dye penetrant inspection shall be in accordance with Appendix VIII, all of the ASME SEC VIII.

Drivers 4.8.1 The motor nameplate rating shall be at least 125% of the maximum power absorbed by the fluid in tank, including gear and transmission losses. The required power shall be based on the maximum absorbed power. Motors shall be in accordance with 17-SAMSS-503.

Gear tolerances shall comply to AGMA quality level 10, as a minimum. The minimum gear service factor shall be 1.5 based on the rated output power of the driver. Couplings between motor and gear shall be of the flexible disc type. All exposed moving parts outside the tank shall be provided with nonsparking, rigidly supported, removable guards for personnel protection.

Manhole Coverplate and Mixer Supports 4.10.1 Coverplates for manholes, complete with welded on mixer mounting flanges, shall be furnished by the Vendor. The flange thickness shall be at least 32 mm (1 in). The mounting flange and pipe spool shall be welded to the coverplate. For offset angle see paragraph 4.1.4&5. The tops of blind-flanges shall be marked "Top" by means of punchedin letters. Tie-rods are required for all mixers with a mass of more than 800 kg (1760 lb). Tie-rods shall be designed with springs to allow for deflections in the tank shell. Castor supports shall not be used. The Vendor shall recommend the height of manholes. The minimum distance between impeller blade tips and the bottom of tank shall be 150 mm (6 in).

Inspection and Tests 5.1 General 5.1.1 The Vendor shall provide the Buyer with advance notification of shop inspections and tests as outlined in the Purchase Order or other agreements. The Company or Buyer Representative shall have access, after prior notification, to all Vendor and sub-Vendor plants where work upon or testing of the equipment is in progress. It shall be the responsibility of the Vendor to notify sub-Vendors of the Buyer's inspection requirements. Acceptance of shop tests shall not constitute a waiver of requirements to meet field tests under the specified operating conditions, nor does inspection relieve the Vendor of his responsibilities in any way.

5.2

Inspection The Vendor shall provide the Buyer with a specified list of materials and certified shop test data to verify compliance with the requirements of the Specification and contract.

5.3

Tests 5.3.1 Hydrostatic Test 5.3.1.1 Pressure-containing parts shall be hydrostatically tested, prior to painting, at 1 times the maximum allowable working pressure of the part, but not less than 105 kPa (ga), (15 psig). Shut-off devices shall be hydrostatically tested at twice the maximum operating pressure per paragraph 4.5 of this Specification. Test pressure shall be maintained for a minimum period of 30 minutes without leakage.

Impeller and Shaft Assemblies 5.3.2.1 5.3.2.2 5.3.2.3 5.3.2.4 5.3.2.5 Impellers shall be subjected to a dye-penetrant or wet fluorescent magnetic particle examination. Impellers shall be statically balanced. An unfiltered vibration overall level should not exceed 3.5 mm/s (0.15 in/s) RMS. Parts shall be match-marked if disassembly is required for shipment. Shaft deflection at the mechanical seal shall be measured and shall be in accordance with paragraph 4.2.1.4 of this Specification.

5.3.3

Running Test The mixer, complete with actual driver and gear transmission, shall be subjected to Vendor's standard shop running test. Test time shall be 30 minutes, or until the gearbox temperature has stabilized, whichever is the longer.

5.4

Preparation for Shipment 5.4.1 General 5.4.1.1 Minimum acceptable preparation shall consist of the following: a) b) 5.4.1.2 Paint shall be as specified in the Purchase Order. All loose materials and mill scale shall be removed by blasting to Sa 2.

Flange faces, shaft, and all other exposed surfaces of finished parts of machinery shall be treated with a rust preventative. All mixers shall be shipped completely assembled, except for impellers, which may be disassembled from the shaft. Flange faces shall be covered with full diameter gasketed metal blanks held in place by 4 full-diameter bolts. All tapped openings shall be fitted with plastic plugs.

One complete set of Vendor prints shall be included with the equipment in the packing when shipped. A stainless steel nameplate shall be attached to each mixer with stainless steel pins and shall be stamped with the following minimum information in English language: Vendor's name, model, serial number and year of construction Mixer speed Rated power Size and type of bearings Tank number, if specified in Purchase Order Buyer's Purchase Order number

The driver nameplate shall include: Make, model and serial number Speed, power, voltage, frequency and phase Purchase Order number Full load, current and frame size

5.4.4

Thermal protection Class of insulation

The mixer direction of rotation shall be indicated by cast-in arrows or separately attached stainless steel arrows.

Guarantee and Warranty Side-entry mixers and components manufactured under a license agreement shall carry the licensor's written guarantee. Unless exception is recorded by the Vendor in his proposal, it shall be understood that the Vendor agrees to the guarantees specified in items a) and b) below: a) All equipment and component parts shall be guaranteed by the Vendor against defective materials, design, and workmanship for 1 year after being placed in service. If any performance deficiencies or defects occur during the guarantee period, the Vendor shall make all necessary alterations, repairs, and replacements free of charge. Field labor charges, if any, shall be subject to negotiation between the Vendor and the Buyer.

Vendor's Data The Vendor's certified outline drawing of the mixer, transmission, and driver shall show the following: Identification data Rotation Mass Wiring connections Adequate dimensional data to permit the design of the tank wall Sizes of all auxiliary piping connections
